About 🧠 MCP Server Practice
MCP Server Practice is a modular FastAPI and FastMCP server for developers exploring practical tool and resource implementations. Its examples cover math, weather, web search, and text-to-audio generation.
Key features
- 01Add and multiply integers
- 02Fetch weather by city
- 03Search the web with OpenAI tools
- 04Generate WAV audio from text
- 05Return personalized greeting resources
Use cases
- 01Explore FastMCP tool implementations
- 02Fetch live weather for a city
- 03Run a web search from an AI agent
- 04Convert a text query into spoken audio
MCP support
The server exposes tools and a `greeting://{name}` resource to AI agents or CLI tools. It runs with stdio transport.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
From the project README🧠 MCP Server Practice
A modular FastAPI-based server powered by FastMCP, showcasing practical implementations of AI tools, math operations, web search, audio response generation, and external API integration.
🚀 Core Functionalities
🔧 Math Utilities
add(a, b): Returns the sum of two integers.multiply(a, b): Returns the product of two integers.
🌤️ Weather API Integration
get_weather(city): Fetches live weather data for a specified city using the WeatherAPI.
🌐 Web Search (via OpenAI Tools)
web_search(query): Performs a live web search using OpenAI’s web search tool and returns a concise result.
🔊 Audio Response Generation
audio_query(text): Converts a text query into spoken audio (WAV format) using OpenAI’sgpt-4oaudio capabilities. Audio files are saved automatically to the/audiofolder.
🙋♂️ Custom Resource Example
greeting://{name}: Returns a personalized greeting string using the resource-based route.
🛠️ Built With
- FastMCP: A server interface for tool-based workflows.
- FastAPI: Web framework for high-performance APIs.
- OpenAI: Powering AI-based search, chat, and audio generation.
- WeatherAPI: External API for real-time weather updates.
- Python + dotenv: For scripting and secure environment variable handling.
💻 How It Works
Each tool is defined using the @mcp.tool() decorator, making it accessible as a callable interface for AI agents or CLI tools. The server runs with:
mcp.run(transport="stdio")

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
