About Netscaler.MCP.server
Netscaler.MCP.server is an MCP server for managing Citrix Netscaler objects through the NITRO REST API. Its tools cover listing, creating, updating, binding, deleting, and checking statistics for objects such as virtual servers and services.
Key features
- 01NITRO REST API communication
- 02List and create objects
- 03Update, bind, and delete objects
- 04Object statistics and Netscaler logs
- 05Environment-based configuration
Use cases
- 01Inspect Netscaler objects
- 02Create or modify virtual servers and services
- 03Check object statistics and Netscaler logs
MCP support
The server exposes Netscaler management operations as MCP tools over stdio for compatible client integrations.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
From the project READMENetscaler.MCP.server
This project is an MCP( Model Context Protocol ) server designed to interact with Netscaler devices using the NITRO API (REST). It provides a set of tools to manage Netscaler objects such as lbvserver, csvserver, service, server. The server is implemented using the FastMCP framework and exposes functionalities for creating, updating, listing, and deleting Netscaler objects.
Features
- Tool-Based API: The project defines tools (
list_tool,create_tool,update_tool,bind_tool,delete_tool,stat_tool,nslog_tool) that encapsulate operations on Netscaler devices. - REST API Integration: Uses Python's
requestslibrary to communicate with Netscaler devices via the NITRO API (REST). - Environment Configuration: Sensitive information like IP addresses and authorization strings are managed through environment variables loaded from a
.envfile. - Extensibility: Modular design allows additional tools or functionalities to be added easily.
- Transport Support: The server runs using the
stdiotransport, making it compatible with various client integrations.
Key Files
NetscalerMCPserver.py: The main server file that initializes the MCP server and defines the tools.Tools/NetscalerObject.py: A utility class for performing CRUD operations on Netscaler objects.
The repo also contains an example of the Claude desktop app config file.
It was tested with the Claude Desktop app. The MCP server was hosted in Windows WSL.
You can also use it in Open WebUI by running it via mcpo
mcpo --port 8000 --api-key "api-key-value" -- python3 NetscalerMCPserver.py
But it works even faster if you use tools like Cursor/VS Code or something similar.

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
