About TypesenseKit
TypesenseKit is an open-source MCP server for Typesense, giving AI agents structured operation tools with read-only access by default. Its coverage includes search, schema inspection, collection operations, and cluster administration.
Key features
- 01Typed operations for Typesense
- 02Search and schema inspection
- 03Collection operations
- 04Cluster administration
- 05Read-only by default, with configurable write access
Use cases
- 01Let an AI agent query Typesense data
- 02Inspect collection schemas and configuration
- 03Enable write or administrative operations when needed
MCP support
The server exposes Typesense operations as MCP tools for AI agents. Write, delete, and admin tools are disabled by default and can be exposed by setting TYPESENSEKIT_READ_ONLY=false.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
npx -y @typesensekit/mcpTYPESENSE_URLURL of the Typesense server, including protocol and port when required.TYPESENSE_API_KEYSecretTypesense API key used to authenticate server operations.TYPESENSEKIT_READ_ONLYExpose only read operations unless explicitly disabled.TYPESENSE_CONNECTION_TIMEOUT_SECONDSOptional Typesense connection timeout in seconds.Local servers need a runtime on your machine (e.g. Node.js 18+). Config file locations differ by client; see your client’s docs.

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
