About API Auto MCP Server

API Auto MCP Server generates an MCP server from a server's OpenAPI specification, letting AI access that server's API without hand-written integration code. The README shows configuration examples for Cursor and Visual Studio Code.

Key features

  1. 01Generate tools from an OpenAPI specification
  2. 02Provide API access without hand-written code
  3. 03Configuration examples for Cursor
  4. 04Configuration examples for Visual Studio Code

Use cases

  1. 01Making an OpenAPI-described API available to AI
  2. 02Adding the generated server to Cursor
  3. 03Configuring the generated server in Visual Studio Code

MCP support

Generates an MCP server from an OpenAPI specification and exposes the described API through tools for MCP clients.

Configuration

Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.

mcp.json · Universal config
{
"mcpServers": {
"api-auto": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"@modelcontextprotocol/inspector"
]
}
}
}
Run commandnpx -y @modelcontextprotocol/inspector

Local servers need a runtime on your machine (e.g. Node.js 18+). Config file locations differ by client; see your client’s docs.

Packages
npm@modelcontextprotocol/inspector

Tools

Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
