Tools
6| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| url | string | No | Direct link to an audio or video file the user owns or may use, such as https://example.com/talk.mp3. Give this or file, not both. Pages of YouTube, TikTok or other platforms are refused. |
| file | object | No | An audio or video file the user uploaded to the chat (ChatGPT fills this in). Give this or url, not both. |
| file.file_id | string | Yes | Id of the uploaded file. |
| file.file_name | string | No | Name of the file, such as episode-4.mp3. Used as the title when title is left out. |
| file.mime_type | string | No | Media type of the file, such as audio/mpeg or video/mp4. |
| file.download_url | string | Yes | Temporary link to the uploaded file. |
| title | string | No | Name to show for the transcript (default: the file name). |
| include | array | No | What to return besides the summary (default all three): timestamped segments, SRT captions, VTT captions. |
| language | string | No | Spoken language as an ISO 639-1 code such as en or fr. Leave out to detect it. |
| library_id | string | No | Leave out on the first transcription. Pass the library_id from an earlier transcribe_media answer, such as lib_9b6a98861ea4f54bff8f5cf1, to add this transcript to that same library, so search_transcripts finds both together. |
| confirm_rights | boolean | Yes | true, and only after the user has said they own this recording or have the rights to transcribe it. false is refused with rights_not_confirmed; ask the user first. |

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
