About mcp-mapmyindia
mcp-mapmyindia exposes Mappls / MapMyIndia mapping APIs as tools for AI assistants working with India's geographic data. It supports place lookup, geocoding, routing, and travel distance and time calculations.
Key features
- 01Forward and reverse geocoding
- 02Place search and nearby discovery
- 03Directions with waypoints
- 04Distance and travel-time matrix
- 05Place details by eLoc
Use cases
- 01Find coordinates for an Indian address
- 02Discover nearby places by keyword
- 03Get directions between points
- 04Compare travel distance and time across routes
MCP support
Exposes Mappls / MapMyIndia geocoding, place search, directions, distance matrix, and place detail APIs as tools for MCP clients.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.

Config file locations differ by client; see your client’s docs.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.

MCP Server for Mappls / MapMyIndia APIs
An MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that exposes Mappls / MapMyIndia APIs as tools for AI assistants like Claude. Enables geocoding, reverse geocoding, place search, nearby discovery, routing, and distance calculations — all focused on India's mapping data.
Tools
| Tool | Description |
|---|---|
geocode | Convert an address or place name to coordinates |
reverse_geocode | Convert coordinates (lat/lng) to a human-readable address |
places_search | Autocomplete and search for places by query string |
nearby | Discover nearby places by keyword around a reference location |
directions | Get turn-by-turn directions between two points (supports waypoints) |
distance_matrix | Compute travel distance and time between multiple origins and destinations |
place_detail | Fetch detailed information for a place using its eLoc (Mappls place ID) |
Setup
Get API credentials
Register at https://apis.mappls.com to get either:
- An API key (simpler, for personal/testing use)
- OAuth client credentials (recommended for production)
Authentication
Set one of the following in your environment:
Option A — OAuth (Client Credentials): RECOMMENDED
export MAPPLS_CLIENT_ID=your_client_id
export MAPPLS_CLIENT_SECRET=your_client_secret
Option B — API Key:
export MAPPLS_API_KEY=your_api_key_here
Usage with Claude Desktop

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
