About Bloomberg MCP
Bloomberg MCP is an MCP server that provides financial data through Bloomberg blpapi for users accessing Bloomberg data from MCP clients. A running Bloomberg Terminal with accessible BBComm is required for data access.
Key features
- 01Access financial data through Bloomberg blpapi
- 02Run the server over SSE transport
- 03Test clients for stdio and SSE
Use cases
- 01Query Bloomberg financial data from an MCP client
- 02Connect to a locally running server over SSE
- 03Test data access with example clients
MCP support
The MCP server gives clients access to Bloomberg blpapi financial data. A Bloomberg Terminal must be running and BBComm must be accessible.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.

Installation
Using UV
uv add git+https://github.com/djsamseng/blpapi-mcp
Run the MCP Server
uv run blpapi-mcp --sse --host 127.0.0.1 --port 8000
Using blpapi-cmp from Cursor
- For project only: create .cursor/mcp.json in your project directory
- For global: create
~/.cursor/mcp.json - Replace the host and port with the MCP server running from above

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
