About CedarAI Data Depot

CedarAI Data Depot is a Cursor plugin that connects authorized rail carriers to Cedar ARMS data. After Cedar OAuth sign-in, it provides read-only access to operational records through Cedar’s hosted MCP server.

Key features

  1. 01Read-only railcar inventory and history
  2. 02View work orders, bookings, and customers
  3. 03Inspect charges, invoices, and quotes
  4. 04Access follows existing ARMS permissions

Use cases

  1. 01Check accessible carriers before querying records
  2. 02Review railcar inventory and equipment history
  3. 03Inspect work orders, bookings, or invoices

MCP support

Connects Cursor to Cedar’s hosted remote MCP server at https://mcp.arms.cedarai.com/mcp. OAuth sign-in uses the user’s existing Cedar ARMS permissions; the server exposes read-only railroad records.

Configuration

Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.

Copy install command
Claude CodeTerminal
Cursor.cursor/mcp.json
VS Code.vscode/mcp.json
Claude Desktopclaude_desktop_config.json
Windsurf~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json

Run commands in a terminal; paste JSON into the client’s MCP config and restart. Servers that need sign-in will prompt on first connect.

From the project README

cedar-mcp

Cursor plugin for CedarAI Data Depot. The plugin identifier is cedar-mcp.

It connects Cursor to Cedar ARMS through Cedar's remote Model Context Protocol server.

After Cedar login, you can list the carriers you can access and inspect read-only railcar inventory, equipment history, work orders, bookings, customers, charges, invoices, quotes, and note metadata. This connector cannot create, update, move, or delete ARMS records. Mutations belong in the ARMS UI.

Install

  1. Open Cursor Settings → Plugins (or the Cursor Marketplace).
  2. Search for cedar-mcp or CedarAI Data Depot.
  3. Click Install, then complete Cedar sign-in (OAuth).

You can also add the MCP URL by hand under Cursor Settings → MCP:

https://mcp.arms.cedarai.com/mcp
GitHub Copilot / VS Code

After this server is published to the official MCP Registry, search @mcp cedar in the VS Code Extensions view, or add it by hand in .vscode/mcp.json:

{
  "servers": {
    "cedar-mcp": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.arms.cedarai.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Then use Auth on the server and complete Cedar sign-in. Registry name: io.github.cedarai/cedar-mcp.

      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.arms.cedarai.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Auth is OAuth 2.0 against Cedar Accounts. Cursor prompts for Cedar sign-in when the plugin connects. There is no API key.

Pass a railroad road mark as carrier_code (for example TRLD) on catalog tools. Call list_accessible_carriers first if you are not sure which carriers you can access.

Data handling

Each MCP request uses the signed-in user's existing ARMS permissions. Installing this plugin does not grant access to additional carriers or records.

Tool results are returned to Cursor so it can answer the user's request. Cedar minimizes sensitive fields before returning high-volume and free-text results, including street addresses, postal codes, email addresses, telephone numbers, note body text and attachments, invoice audit comments and documents, and selected tender and charge fields. Inventory responses are paginated and capped at 50 records per call.

Review the MCP privacy addendum and MCP data handling documentation before connecting.

Docs

The MCP server is hosted by Cedar. This repository is only the Cursor plugin wrapper (same pattern as Cursor's Google Drive plugin).

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
