About CivilQuants
CivilQuants is a hosted remote MCP server for civil-engineering quantity take-offs, aimed at quantity surveyors and engineering workflows. It produces deterministic Bills of Quantities under four UK measurement standards, with quantities traceable to formulas and inputs.
Key features
- 0146 civil-engineering assembly computations
- 02Four UK measurement standards
- 03Formula- and input-traceable quantities
- 04Dimensioned drawings
- 05Excel, DXF, and PDF exports
Use cases
- 01Measure a manhole or culvert assembly
- 02Prepare a standards-aligned pavement BoQ
- 03Calculate earthwork cut and fill volumes
MCP support
CivilQuants exposes its quantity-computation tools through a remote Streamable HTTP MCP endpoint. The anonymous tier provides limited access; OAuth 2.0 unlocks the full catalogue, exports, and saved projects.
Configuration
Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.

Standards-aware civil-engineering quantity take-off — over MCP. Parametric inputs in; a deterministic, audit-traceable Bill of Quantities out, across four UK measurement standards (CESMM4, NRM2, SMM7, MMHW).
CivilQuants is a hosted remote MCP server; the engine source is proprietary. This repository is for discovery and connection docs — it contains no engine or application code.

What it is
CivilQuants is a deterministic, standards-aware quantification engine for civil engineering, accessible to any MCP-capable AI assistant. Give it the dimensions, materials and structure type for an assembly — box culvert, manhole, retaining wall, pavement, drainage run, earthworks — and it returns a structured Bill of Quantities aligned to your chosen UK measurement standard (CESMM4, NRM2, SMM7, MMHW), with a dimensioned drawing and every quantity traceable to its formula and inputs.
Six assemblies are available free and anonymously (rate-limited). A 7-day pass or subscription unlocks the full set of 46, plus Excel, DXF and PDF export and saved projects. Built by a working quantity surveyor; it supports your workflow and professional judgement rather than replacing them.
Connect
| Remote endpoint | https://api.civilquants.com/mcp |
| Transport | Streamable HTTP |
| Free tier | Anonymous — no signup, rate-limited 10 calls/day per IP |
| Paid tier | OAuth 2.0 — full catalogue + clean Excel/DXF/PDF export + saved projects |
| Standards | CESMM4 · NRM2 · SMM7 · MMHW |
| Tools | 50 — 46 compute_<assembly> + render_skill_report + save_project / get_project / recompute_project |
The free tier needs no account: point an MCP-aware client at the endpoint and the tools appear. Full step-by-step setup for every client lives at civilquants.com/agent-docs.
Quick add
Most MCP clients take a remote server as a single URL. Where a client uses a JSON config, the entry is:
{
"mcpServers": {
"civilquants": {
"url": "https://api.civilquants.com/mcp"
}
}
}
- Claude — add the URL as a custom connector (Claude Desktop one-click button on the agent docs).
- Cursor / Windsurf — add a server in MCP settings: name
civilquants, URLhttps://api.civilquants.com/mcp. - Gemini / ChatGPT / custom agents — connect to the Streamable HTTP endpoint via your MCP SDK; the free tier requires no auth.
See civilquants.com/agent-docs for the per-client walkthroughs, the full tool surface, and example prompts you can run.
Try it
Connect the server, then paste a prompt into your agent. These run on the free tier — no account needed:
Using CivilQuants, compute an MMHW Bill of Quantities for a precast concrete manhole 1.2 m diameter and 3 m deep.
Size an attenuation tank for a 0.5 ha car park and give me the bill of quantities.
Work out the cut and fill volumes for an embankment cross-section (give the chainage and cross-section areas) using the end-area method.
Scope
CivilQuants measures civil-engineering assemblies — it is not a complete project Bill of Quantities. Out of scope at v1: preliminaries, site clearance, demolition, project-scale bulk earthworks (only end-area along chainages is in scope), structures outside the catalogue, M&E, and project-level rates. Bring your prelims and site-wide quantities; CivilQuants produces the measured works.

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
