About devtools-mcp
devtools-mcp is an MCP server offering five local developer utilities, for developers who need UUIDs, time and unit conversion, JSON handling, or QR codes. It also provides a hosted endpoint and can be self-hosted.
Key features
- 01Generate v4 and v5 UUIDs
- 02Convert timestamps using Beijing time
- 03Convert length, weight, temperature, and storage units
- 04Format, minify, and validate JSON
- 05Generate QR codes as SVG or PNG
Use cases
- 01Create UUIDs for development and testing
- 02Convert timestamps to and from Beijing time
- 03Check and reformat JSON data
- 04Create QR codes from URLs or text
MCP support
Exposes five developer utilities as MCP tools. Clients can connect through its hosted Streamable HTTP endpoint or to a self-hosted server.
Configuration
Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.

Servers that need sign-in will prompt on first connect.
Tools
Details
From the project READMEDeveloper Toolkit MCP
Five high-frequency developer utilities as MCP tools — UUID generation, timestamp conversion (Beijing time), unit conversion, JSON formatting/validation, and QR-code generation. Everything runs locally; four of the five tools use only the Python standard library.
- Try it in 30 seconds: a free public MCP endpoint is already running — just paste the URL into your MCP client (no install, no API key).
- Or self-host: a tiny FastMCP server, no external API calls, deterministic and privacy-safe.
⚡ Use the hosted endpoint (no setup)
https://mcp.pianam.cn/devtools-mcp/mcp
Transport: Streamable HTTP (MCP 2025-03-26 compatible). No authentication required.
🔌 Client configuration
Add this to your MCP client's mcpServers configuration (Claude Desktop, Cursor, Cline, Cherry Studio, etc.):
{
"mcpServers": {
"devtools": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://mcp.pianam.cn/devtools-mcp/mcp"
}
}
}
Clients that do not accept
"type": "http"accept the same entry with just"url".
🧰 Tools
| Tool | Parameters | Returns | |
---|---|---|
| generate_uuid(version="v4", count=1, namespace=null, name=null) | version: v4 random (default) or v5 namespaced SHA-1. count: 1–1000. For v5: namespace (dns/url/oid/x500 or a full UUID) + name. | List of UUID strings (v5 is deterministic for the same namespace+name). |
| convert_timestamp(value=null, to="iso") | value: Unix timestamp in seconds or milliseconds (auto-detected, int or numeric string) or a date/time string (2026-09-05, 2026-09-05 10:30:00, ISO 8601…). Omit for "now". | ISO 8601 Beijing-time string + readable form + Unix seconds/milliseconds + weekday; or the reverse conversion from a date string. All times use Asia/Shanghai (UTC+8). |
| convert_unit(value, from_unit, to_unit) | Numeric value and units across length (m/km/cm/mm/mile/foot/inch…), weight (kg/g/mg/t/lb/oz…), temperature (c/f/k, with offset), data storage (B/KB/MB/GB/TB/PB, binary 1024). Chinese unit names also accepted. | Converted result plus a readable equation; cross-category conversion (e.g. meters to kilograms) returns a clear error. |
| format_json(data, action="format") | data: JSON string. action: format (pretty, 2-space indent, Chinese unescaped) / minify / validate. | Formatted/minified text with length comparison, or a validity verdict; on invalid JSON returns error line/column, a position pointer and a context snippet. |
| generate_qr(content, format="svg") | content: URL/text/WiFi string (≤ 2000 bytes). format: svg (default, vector) or png. | SVG markup string (save as .svg; an agent can write the file directly) or, for PNG, base64 + data URI (PNG requires Pillow). |
Examples
📡 Dependencies & privacy
generate_uuid,convert_timestamp,convert_unit,format_jsonuse only the Python standard library.generate_qruses the pure-Pythonqrcodepackage with its SVG path image factory — SVG output needs no Pillow/native deps. PNG output is optional and requires Pillow.- Zero network calls, zero API keys — fully deterministic and safe for sensitive data.
🐢 Self-hosting
git clone https://github.com/boy-373/devtools-mcp.git
cd devtools-mcp
pip install -r requirements.txt
python server.py
# listens on 127.0.0.1:8000 by default; override with:
# MCP_HOST=0.0.0.0 MCP_PORT=9000 python server.py
# behind a reverse proxy, allow your public hostname:
# MCP_ALLOWED_HOSTS="your-domain.com,your-domain.com:*" python server.py
Then point your MCP client at http://127.0.0.1:8000/mcp.
With uv:
uv venv && uv pip install -r requirements.txt
uv run python server.py

Key):https://mcp.pianam.cn/devtools-mcp/mcp
前四个工具仅用 Python 标准库;二维码用纯 Python 的 qrcode 生成 SVG(PNG 才需 Pillow)。全程无任何网络请求与外部 API,确定性、隐私安全。

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
