About Codex MCP Server

Codex MCP Server is an MCP server that provides enriched blockchain data from Codex. It works with any MCP-compatible client, such as Claude Desktop, and requires a Codex API key.

Key features

  1. 01Enriched blockchain data from Codex
  2. 02Compatible with any MCP client
  3. 03Run without installation via npx
  4. 04stdio mode for command line tools

Use cases

  1. 01Querying blockchain data from Claude Desktop
  2. 02Supplying on-chain data to command line tools

MCP support

This is an MCP server that connects to MCP clients over stdio and exposes Codex blockchain data to them.

Configuration

Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.

mcp.json · Universal config
{
"mcpServers": {
"codex": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"@codex-data/codex-mcp"
]
}
}
}
Run commandnpx -y @codex-data/codex-mcp

Local servers need a runtime on your machine (e.g. Node.js 18+). Config file locations differ by client; see your client’s docs.

Packages
npm@codex-data/codex-mcp

Tools

Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.

Integration with Claude Desktop
  1. Open Claude Desktop settings
  2. Go to the Developer tab and click "Edit Config"
  3. Add a new server configuration:

No installation:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "codex-data": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@codex-data/codex-mcp"],
      "env": {
        "CODEX_API_KEY": "<your-codex-api-key>"
      }
    }
  }
}

Local installation:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "codex-data": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": ["/path/to/codex-mcp/build/index.js"],
      "env": {
        "CODEX_API_KEY": "<your-codex-api-key>"
      }
    }
  }
}
  1. Replace /path/to/codex-mcp with the actual path to your installation
  2. Replace <your-codex-api-key> with your actual Codex API key

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
