About optics-mcp
optics-mcp is a public MCP server for searching Sunex lens and imager catalogs and checking optical compatibility. It is intended for assistants working with sensor specifications, lens matching and sample pricing; its catalog access is read-only and requires no authentication.
Key features
- 01Search lenses and imagers by keyword or part number
- 02Recommend lenses for an imager
- 03Match lenses to sensor geometry
- 04Retrieve imager specifications and geometry
- 05Find sample pricing and RFQ links
Use cases
- 01Find lenses compatible with a sensor
- 02Compare lenses by field of view and resolution
- 03Check sensor dimensions from imager specifications
- 04Search catalog pricing and request a quote
MCP support
Exposes five read-only catalog tools to MCP clients over Streamable HTTP, with a legacy SSE endpoint also available. The public service requires no authentication.
Configuration
Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.

Five tools
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
recommend_lens_for_imager | Give it an imager PN → compatible lenses with FOV and angular resolution. One shot. |
search_imagers | Find sensors by PN, manufacturer, or resolution class. |
get_imager_detail | Full sensor specs plus computed geometry (width / height / diagonal in mm). |
find_compatible_lenses | Given pixel count + pitch, return lenses whose image circle covers the sensor. |
search_products | Full catalog search by PN or keyword, with sample pricing and RFQ links. |
Example prompts
- "Recommend a wide-angle lens for the Sony IMX577 with F/2.0 or faster."
- "I need fisheye lenses under $100."
- "What's the diagonal of the IMX477 in mm?"
- "Find lenses for a 1920×1080 sensor with 3µm pixels, 100–180° HFOV."

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
