About Zenitsu
Zenitsu is a local task manager and notebook for Linux users who want AI apps to read and update tasks, notes, and journals under set rules. Its bundled program connects those apps to data that stays on the computer.
Key features
- 01Manage local tasks, notes, and journals
- 02Let AI apps read and update data
- 03Set rules for AI changes
- 04Prevent AI from deleting data
Use cases
- 01Have AI apps review and update tasks
- 02Keep personal notes and journals locally
MCP support
Zenitsu includes `zenitsu-mcp`, which lets AI apps read and update local tasks and notes through MCP.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
From the project READMEZenitsu
Zenitsu is a fast, private task manager and notebook for Linux. Your tasks, notes and daily journal stay on your own computer, and AI apps such as Claude can read and update them for you, under rules you set.

Use Zenitsu with AI apps
Install Zenitsu first and open it once. It includes zenitsu-mcp, a small program that lets AI apps work with your tasks and notes on this computer. Nothing is sent anywhere by Zenitsu, and the AI can never erase your data.
Claude Code — install the Zenitsu plugin. It connects Claude to Zenitsu and teaches it how to use it well, and adds /zenitsu:daily-line and /zenitsu:sunday-review:
/plugin marketplace add ANSHAY/zenitsu-releases
/plugin install zenitsu@zenitsu
Other AI apps — point them at zenitsu-mcp:
| App | How |
|---|---|
| Codex | codex mcp add zenitsu -- zenitsu-mcp |
| VS Code (Copilot) | code --add-mcp '{"name":"zenitsu","type":"stdio","command":"zenitsu-mcp"}' |
| Cursor, Claude Desktop, Gemini and others | add {"mcpServers": {"zenitsu": {"command": "zenitsu-mcp", "args": []}}} to the app's MCP settings |
With the AppImage, use the AppImage's path as the command and mcp as its first argument (for the Claude Code plugin, set ZENITSU_APPIMAGE to the AppImage's path instead). In Zenitsu, Settings → AI apps shows the exact setup for your computer and lets you require that every task an AI adds has a priority, a type and a due date.

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
