About cookbook-mcp-server
An MCP server that reads from a cookbook directory, intended for projects that need to provide recipe lookups to MCP clients. It offers tools to list all recipes or retrieve one for a named dish.
Key features
- 01List all recipes
- 02Retrieve a recipe by dish
Use cases
- 01Browse every recipe in the cookbook
- 02Look up instructions for a specific dish
MCP support
It exposes the get_all_dishes and get_recipe tools to MCP clients, and can be configured to run locally or over SSE.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.

获取菜谱: 菜谱:https://github.com/Anduin2017/HowToCook/tree/master
git clone https://github.com/Anduin2017/HowToCook/tree/master -
替换cookbook.py中的cookbook路径。将1中clone下来的仓库的dishes文件夹路径填入下面常量
# Constants COOKBOOK_URL = "/PATH/OF/YOUR/COOKBOOK" -
配置mcp client。
{ "mcpServers": { "cookbook": { "command": "/PATH/OF/uv", "args": [ "--directory", "/PATH/OF/ROOT/mcp-server-cookbook/cookbook", "run", "/PATH/OF/ROOT/mcp-server-cookbook/cookbook.py" ] } } } -
如果使用sse server,需要进行一下修改
- cookbook.py中修改执行入口
if __name__ == "__main__": # Initialize and run the server mcp.run(transport='sse') - mcp client配置修改。注意端口号。
{ "mcpServers": { "cookbook": { "url": "http://localhost:PORT/sse" } } }
- cookbook.py中修改执行入口

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
