About Dataset Viewer MCP Server
Dataset Viewer MCP Server is an MCP server for the Hugging Face Dataset Viewer API, used to browse and analyze datasets hosted on the Hugging Face Hub. It exposes validation, metadata, paging, search, filtering and statistics operations. Private datasets are supported through an auth token.
Key features
- 01Accesses datasets through the dataset:// URI scheme
- 02Paginated retrieval of dataset rows
- 03Text search and SQL-style filtering
- 04Dataset split statistics
- 05Authentication for private datasets
Use cases
- 01Checking whether a Hugging Face dataset exists and is accessible
- 02Filtering dataset rows with WHERE conditions from an MCP client
- 03Downloading a full dataset in Parquet format
MCP support
The server exposes Hugging Face dataset access as MCP tools and resources for MCP clients.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
