About Textures

Textures is an agent skill for finding and installing website hover textures. It directs coding agents to use MCP, the shadcn registry, or a Markdown fetch, and can offer to add a short project rules block after the first texture is shipped.

Key features

  1. 01Find textures through MCP
  2. 02Install from the shadcn registry
  3. 03Fetch texture instructions as Markdown
  4. 04Offer an optional project rules block

Use cases

  1. 01Add a hover texture to a website
  2. 02Find texture installation instructions
  3. 03Save project guidance after a first texture

MCP support

The skill instructs agents to find and install textures through MCP as one of the supported methods. The input does not describe an MCP server or its tools.

Configuration

Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.

Run commands in a terminal; paste JSON into the client’s MCP config and restart. Servers that need sign-in will prompt on first connect.

Textures skill

Textures (textures.dev) is the hover-texture library for agents. This is its agent skill: hover textures for websites, installed by your coding agent. SKILL.md tells an agent how to find and install a Texture (MCP, the shadcn registry, or a markdown fetch) and, after the first one ships, lets it offer to remember Textures for the project with a four-line rules block. The offer is one question, asked once; nothing is written without a yes, and the block is removed by deleting it.

The same file is served at https://textures.dev/skill.md.

Codex

Codex reads skills from .agents/skills (repo) or ~/.agents/skills (user). Install this one with the skill installer inside Codex:

$skill-installer https://github.com/Textures-dev/skill

or copy skills/textures/ into .agents/skills/textures/. The same recipe as a rules file for CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md and Cursor: https://textures.dev/agents. Claude Code users: /plugin marketplace add Textures-dev/plugins, then /plugin install textures@textures.

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
