About DexL Agents

DexL Agents is an x402 gateway for calling AI models, speech, web search and crawling, on-chain reads, FX rates, and NLP tools. It supports free calls and pay-per-request stablecoin payments, with wallet signing kept on the client side for paid MCP use.

Key features

  1. 01Gateway to models, speech, and web tools
  2. 02On-chain reads, FX, and NLP tools
  3. 03Free tier without a wallet
  4. 04Per-call USDC payment via x402
  5. 05Paid MCP calls with a local wallet

Use cases

  1. 01Try free model calls without an account or wallet
  2. 02Check the price of a paid API call
  3. 03Pay for a single API request using x402
  4. 04Use paid MCP tools while keeping wallet keys local

MCP support

Provides a remote MCP endpoint for free tools and a local `dexl-agents mcp` setup for paid tools. For paid calls, the client handles wallet signing and sends payment through x402.

Configuration

Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.

Endpointhttps://agents.dexl.io/mcp
Copy install command
Claude CodeTerminal
Cursor.cursor/mcp.json
VS Code.vscode/mcp.json
Claude Desktopclaude_desktop_config.json
Windsurf~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json

Run commands in a terminal; paste JSON into the client’s MCP config and restart. Servers that need sign-in will prompt on first connect.

Pay an API with x402 — in about ten lines

x402 is HTTP 402 put to work: a server answers 402 Payment Required with the exact price, the client signs a stablecoin payment and repeats the same request. No account, no API key, no invoice.

These examples call DexL Agents, an x402 gateway (chat models, speech, web search and crawl, on-chain reads, FX rates, NLP tools). Everything here works against any x402 server — only the URL changes.

1. Free: no wallet at all

npm install
npm run free

free.mjs does two things:

  • calls the free tier (model: "dexl-free") — no payment header, no wallet, no account;
  • asks what a paid call would cost by sending it without payment and reading the 402.

Real output:

free answer: HTTP 402 (Payment Required) is a non-standardized status code reserved for future use...
web-search costs 0.01 USDC on eip155:8453 (HTTP 402)

2. Paid: one call, one signature

PRIVATE_KEY=0x... npm run paid

The payment is these three lines; after them it is ordinary fetch:

const signer = toClientEvmSigner(wallet);
const client = new x402Client().register('eip155:8453', new ExactEvmScheme(signer));
const fetchWithPay = wrapFetchWithPayment(fetch, client);

Your key stays on your machine — the server only ever sees a signed payment. Settles in USDC on Base, Polygon, Arbitrum or Solana. Error responses are not charged.

The free example above was run as-is. The paid one needs your own funded wallet, so run it yourself with a small balance; it uses the same client our own service uses.

3. Connect an MCP client

Remote (free tools only — a remote server holds no wallet of yours):

https://agents.dexl.io/mcp

Local, with paid tools, because the wallet stays on your machine:

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
