About GLM MCP

GLM (Zhipu/Z.ai) as a ~10x cheaper file-editing subagent for AI coding agents

Configuration

Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.

mcp.json · Universal config
{
"mcpServers": {
"djerok-glm": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"glm-mcp"
],
"env": {
"GLM_API_KEY": "<GLM_API_KEY>"
}
}
}
}
Run commandnpx -y glm-mcp
Environment variables to set
GLM_API_KEYSecretZ.ai / Zhipu GLM Coding Plan API key. Required for GLM calls; the server boots and answers MCP introspection without it.

Local servers need a runtime on your machine (e.g. Node.js 18+). Config file locations differ by client; see your client’s docs.

ParameterTypeRequiredDescription
taskstringYesThe coding task for GLM to carry out end-to-end in the repo.
modelstringNoModel id or 'auto' (default, peak-aware).
formatenumNoconcise (default: summary+stats+changed files) or detailed (adds full diff). dry_run always shows the diff.concise | detailed
contextstringNoOptional extra context/constraints (GLM can also read files itself).
dry_runbooleanNoIf true, GLM proposes a diff and writes nothing (preview before applying). Default false.
workdirstringNoAbsolute path to the project root GLM should operate in. Defaults to the server's cwd; always pass it explicitly.
thinkingbooleanNoEnable GLM reasoning mode for harder tasks. Default false.
max_tokensanyNo'auto' (default): uncapped/generous per turn — you (the orchestrating agent) decide. Pass a number (256–131072) to cap each turn. (GLM_CAP=on enforces a hard limit regardless.)

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
