VibeMind for Ableton — the free bridge

Plug Claude (Desktop or Code) or ChatGPT (via Codex CLI) into Ableton Live 12. Ask for "a tech house loop at 126: kick, clap, hats and a bassline, 8 bars" and it builds it in your project: real tracks, real MIDI clips, your plugins and samples. Nothing is rendered by a model; every note is editable.

Download the notarized macOS installer (free, no licence, no account): https://rollaaudio.com/vibemind — setup guide: https://rollaaudio.com/vibemind/setup

What is in the free bridge

  • Live Remote Script (remote-script/): the bridge. Owns TCP 9877 (control) and 9878 (browser).
  • Max for Live devices (m4l/): VibeMind_PluginHost x4 (host Serum 2, Vital, Diva… with every parameter and full state recall) and VibeMind_Arranger (timeline placement, locators), plus their JS handlers.
  • vibemind-mcp server: one notarized binary shipped in the installer; registers itself with Claude Desktop, Claude Code and Codex CLI. 44 tools: session and transport, tracks, clips and notes, devices and parameters, browser search and load, Serum 1 preset read/write/analyse, plugin hosting.

This repository holds the Remote Script and the Max for Live devices (MIT, see NOTICE for the ableton-mcp lineage), the customer setup guide and the changelog. The server binary ships in the installer.

VibeMind Pro

The knowledge layer on top of the bridge: measured artist packs (John Summit, deadmau5, Technimatic today, one new artist every week), vibemind_place_spec (a whole arrangement into Live), vibemind_check_mix (your bounce against the artist's targets) and the pack downloader. $12/month or $79/year, 14-day trial inside the app. https://rollaaudio.com/vibemind#pro

Requirements

macOS 13+ on Apple silicon, Ableton Live 12 (Suite, or Standard + Max for Live for PluginHost and Arranger; the Remote-Script tools work without M4L), a Claude or ChatGPT subscription for the AI client. Windows: in progress.

Manual install (without the installer)

  1. Copy remote-script/ to ~/Music/Ableton/User Library/Remote Scripts/VibeMind/.
  2. Copy m4l/devices/*.amxd and m4l/handlers/*.js to ~/Music/Ableton/User Library/VibeMind/.
  3. Live > Settings > Link, Tempo & MIDI > Control Surface: VibeMind.
  4. Install the server from the installer at https://rollaaudio.com/vibemind (it registers itself with your AI client). Full guide: docs/SETUP.md.

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
