About Ecowitt
Ecowitt is an MCP server for AI assistants that retrieves weather-station data through the Ecowitt API. It provides device discovery along with real-time and historical readings.
Key features
- 01List weather stations and sensors
- 02Retrieve device readings in real time
- 03Retrieve historical device data
- 04Read device details as resources
Use cases
- 01Check a station’s current temperature
- 02Review weather from a past date
- 03Find available Ecowitt devices
MCP support
The MCP server exposes tools for listing devices, retrieving real-time and historical readings, and checking the current date and time. It also provides resources for listing devices and reading their details.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
From the project READMEEcowitt MCP Server
MCP server for integrating Ecowitt weather stations with AI assistants. This fetches weather data using the Ecowitt API.
Prerequisites
Requires a valid Ecowitt Application Key and API Key. Visit Private Center in ecowitt.net to create.
MCP Configuration
{
"ecowitt": {
"command": "npx -y ecowitt-mcp",
"env": {
"ECOWITT_APPLICATION_KEY": "your_app_key",
"ECOWITT_API_KEY": "your_api_key"
}
}
}
Available Tools
- get_devices - Get all your weather stations and sensors
- get_device_realtime_info - Get realtime data for a specific device
- get_device_historical_info - Get historical data for a specific device
- get_current_datetime - Because AI needs a little help knowing exactly when it is.
Available Resources
- resources/list - List all available Ecowitt devices
- resources/read - Get full details for a specific device
Example Usage
Once configured, you can ask your AI assistant:
"Show me all my weather devices using the get_devices tool"
"List my Ecowitt stations"
"What is the current temperature from my Ecowitt station?"
"What was the weather like last Christmas?"
"What was the wettest month this year?"
"When should I plant garlic?"
The AI will use the MCP server to fetch your device information from the Ecowitt API.

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
