About email-mcp

email-mcp is a lightweight MCP server for sending email through SMTP, enabling AI to send messages automatically. It supports plain-text and HTML bodies, CC and BCC, and stdio, SSE, or streamable modes.

Key features

  1. 01Sends email through SMTP
  2. 02Supports plain-text and HTML formats
  3. 03Supports CC and BCC
  4. 04Runs in stdio, SSE, or streamable mode

Use cases

  1. 01Send plain-text notifications automatically with AI
  2. 02Send email containing HTML content
  3. 03Distribute messages using CC and BCC
  4. 04Deploy as a remote MCP server

MCP support

The MCP server exposes SMTP email sending to MCP clients and can run over stdio, SSE, or streamable transport. For remote deployment, clients can connect using the remote server URL.

Configuration

Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.

Features

  • Supports three modes to start the MCP server: stdio, sse, and streamable (can be deployed on remote servers)
  • Email sending supports plain text and HTML formats
  • Supports CC and BCC for email sending

Setup

Installation

Directly download the pre - compiled executable file.

curl https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Allenxuxu/email-mcp/HEAD/download.sh | bash

After the download and execution are completed, you will see the send-email executable file in the current directory.

Local MCP Server

Just configure the send-email executable file downloaded just now directly to the client that supports MCP.

      "command": "/you local path/send-email",
      "env": {

        "SENDEREMAIL": "[email protected]"
      }
    }
  }
}
Remote MCP Server

When deploying on a server, you can specify the mode (stdio/sse/streamable) and listening address via command line arguments or environment variables.

  • The default mode is stdio. For server deployment, set it to sse or streamable.
  • The default address is 127.0.0.1:8080, which can be modified as needed.

Execute ./send-email -h to view all the parameters that need to be specified. All parameters can be set through environment variables (command - line parameters have a higher priority than environment variables).

./send-email -h
Usage: send-email [--mode MODE] [--address ADDRESS] --smtppassword SMTPPASSWORD --smtpaddress SMTPADDRESS --senderemail SENDEREMAIL

Options:
  --mode MODE Optional values: stdio/sse/streamable [default: stdio, env: MODE]
  --address ADDRESS Optional values: use for sse/streamable mode [default: 127.0.0.1:8080, env: ADDRESS]
  --smtppassword SMTPPASSWORD [env: SMTPPASSWORD]
  --smtpaddress SMTPADDRESS

      ]
    }
  }
}

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
