About FlightRadar MCP Server
FlightRadar MCP Server provides real-time flight tracking and status through the AviationStack API. It is for MCP users looking up flights and airport or airline reference data; some tools require a paid AviationStack plan.
Key features
- 01Get flight details by code
- 02Search flights by criteria
- 03Retrieve a flight status summary
- 04Look up airport and airline data
- 05Find an airport’s future flights
Use cases
- 01Check the real-time status of a flight
- 02Find flights by airline or airport
- 03Look up airport codes and time zones
- 04Review scheduled future airport departures or arrivals
MCP support
The MCP server gives clients tools for querying flights, airports, and airlines using the AviationStack API. Airport, airline, and future-flight tools require an AviationStack Basic or higher plan.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
From the project READMEFlightRadar MCP Server
A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides real-time flight tracking and status information using the AviationStack API.
Features
This MCP server provides six tools:
- get_flight_data: Get detailed information about a specific flight by its IATA or ICAO code
- search_flights: Search for flights by various criteria like airline, departure/arrival airports, and status
- get_flight_status: Get a human-readable status summary for a specific flight
- search_airports: Look up airport reference data (name, location, timezone) by IATA/ICAO code or by name
- get_airline_info: Look up airline reference data (name, codes, fleet info) by IATA/ICAO code or by name
- get_future_flights: Get future scheduled departures or arrivals for an airport on a given future date
Tools 1-3 use AviationStack's real-time /flights endpoint, available on the free plan. Tools 4-6 use the /airports, /airlines, and /flightsFuture endpoints, which require a paid AviationStack plan (Basic or higher) — calling them with a free-plan key returns a function_access_restricted error from the API.

API Key Configuration
This server requires an AviationStack API key to function. You can get a free API key (100 requests/month) at aviationstack.com.
The API key should be provided as an environment variable named AVIATIONSTACK_API_KEY in your MCP settings configuration.
Note: the free plan only covers real-time flight lookup (get_flight_data, search_flights, get_flight_status). The reference-data tools (search_airports, get_airline_info, get_future_flights) call AviationStack endpoints that require a paid plan (Basic or higher); with a free-plan key they will return an API error (function_access_restricted).

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
