About GenPM
GenPM is an MCP server for AI agents to find, inspect, and add architecture modules containing source code, AI rules, and MCP configuration, pinned to immutable Git commits. It is aimed at developers reusing project modules and checking their integrity and updates.
Key features
- 01Search modules by need
- 02Inspect manifests, dependencies, and rules
- 03Preview and inject modules
- 04List installed modules and local changes
- 05Check updates, integrity, and advisories
- 06Validate authored modules
Use cases
- 01Find reusable modules for a project
- 02Preview changes before injecting a module
- 03Check module integrity and security advisories
- 04Validate a module under development
MCP support
The server provides MCP clients with tools to search, inspect, add, remove, audit, and validate modules, plus prompts for finding and integrating them. Writes are limited to the project root; adding MCP configuration and installing npm packages requires explicit consent.
Configuration
Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.
https://mcp.genpm.net/claude mcp add --transport http genpm-net-genpm https://mcp.genpm.net/{"mcpServers":{"genpm-net-genpm":{"type":"http","url":"https://mcp.genpm.net/"}}}Open in Cursor{"servers":{"genpm-net-genpm":{"type":"http","url":"https://mcp.genpm.net/"}}}Open in VS Code{"mcpServers":{"genpm-net-genpm":{"type":"http","url":"https://mcp.genpm.net/"}}}{"mcpServers":{"genpm-net-genpm":{"serverUrl":"https://mcp.genpm.net/"}}}Run commands in a terminal; paste JSON into the client’s MCP config and restart. Servers that need sign-in will prompt on first connect.

Details
From the project README@genpm-net/mcp
The GenPM MCP server: lets your AI agent search, inspect and inject architecture modules (source code + AI rules + MCP config) from immutable Git commits — with the same engine as the genpm CLI.
claude mcp add genpm -- npx -y @genpm-net/mcp
Don't want Node.js? The same server is built into the native genpm binary (genpm.net/docs/install): register genpm mcp serve instead, or run genpm mcp setup and it writes the config for you. Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and Codex: see genpm.net/docs/mcp.
Tools
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
genpm_search | Find packages by need (never returns sponsored results). |
genpm_info | Manifest, dependencies, env vars, MCP servers and AI rules. |
genpm_add | Plan with dryRun: true, then inject. MCP config and npm installs need explicit consent. |
genpm_list | Installed packages with local changes. |
genpm_remove | Remove a package; never deletes code you modified. |
genpm_outdated | Newer versions available. |
genpm_audit | Integrity, signatures and advisories. |
genpm_validate | Validate a package you are authoring. |
Prompts: genpm-find and genpm-integrate.
Safety
No publish, login or force tools: credentials stay out of the agent's reach. Writes only happen inside the project root (taken from the client's roots), package code is never executed, and package rules are returned as clearly delimited third-party content that never authorizes actions on its own.
Environment: GENPM_REGISTRY (another registry), GENPM_TELEMETRY=0 or DO_NOT_TRACK=1 (no telemetry).

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
