About userproof

UserProof provides website visitor analysis for Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor, identifying a priority fix with a file and line and checking its effect after release. A site snippet records visits, clicks, scrolls, and errors; the plugin reads only `.userproof` and the API key in the repository.

Key features

  1. 01Collect page views, clicks, scrolls, and errors
  2. 02Suggest a priority fix with file and line
  3. 03Check a fix after it ships
  4. 04Support Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor

Use cases

  1. 01Choose conversion improvements from real visitor behavior
  2. 02Locate the code file and line for a suggested fix
  3. 03Verify after release whether a fix worked

MCP support

It works as an MCP server for coding clients, with setup via a Claude Code plugin, Codex `mcp add`, or Cursor MCP configuration. The server reads `.userproof` and the API key to produce review suggestions from visitor data; the README says it does not upload source code.

Configuration

Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.

mcp.json · Universal config
{
"mcpServers": {
"getuserproof-userproof": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"userproof"
],
"env": {
"USERPROOF_API_KEY": "<USERPROOF_API_KEY>"
}
}
}
}
Run commandnpx -y userproof
Environment variables to set
USERPROOF_API_KEYSecretUserProof API key. Run /userproof:setup in Claude Code to create one, or leave unset: the server also reads ~/.config/userproof/key.

Local servers need a runtime on your machine (e.g. Node.js 18+). Config file locations differ by client; see your client’s docs.

Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.

From the project README

UserProof for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor

UserProof shows you the one fix your real visitors are begging for, with the file and line, then checks whether it worked after you ship. https://getuserproof.com

Install

/plugin marketplace add GetUserProof/userproof
/plugin install userproof@userproof
/userproof:setup
Codex
codex mcp add userproof -- npx -y github:GetUserProof/userproof
codex "Read https://getuserproof.com/setup.md and follow it to set up UserProof for this project."
Cursor

Add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json under mcpServers:

"userproof": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "github:GetUserProof/userproof"] }

Then ask the agent: "Read https://getuserproof.com/setup.md and follow it to set up UserProof for this project."

Setup creates your account, adds the tracking snippet to your site, and proves it records. After a Claude Code restart (or /mcp reconnect) run /userproof:review for the top fix.

What data it collects

  • Your email and site domain, sent to api.getuserproof.com at signup.
  • Visitor behavior on your site (page views, clicks, scrolls, errors) sent by the snippet to ingest.getuserproof.com.
  • The plugin itself reads only .userproof in your repo and your API key. The key is stored in ~/.config/userproof/key (mode 600). It does not upload your source code.

No npm install is needed: the MCP server ships inside the plugin as one file (plugin/mcp/server.mjs, also run by npx github:GetUserProof/userproof) and needs Node 18+.

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
