Key features

  1. 01Search federal contract opportunities
  2. 02Filter by department and date range
  3. 03Retrieve official SAM.gov opportunity links
  4. 04Access API metadata and licensing details
  5. 05Daily automated data updates

Use cases

  1. 01Find federal bids from selected departments
  2. 02Review opportunities within a date window
  3. 03Open the official SAM.gov listing for an opportunity
  4. 04Check API metadata and licensing

MCP support

Exposes tools to retrieve API information, search opportunities, and obtain official opportunity URLs. The remote MCP endpoint is available at the address given in the README.

Configuration

Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.

GovBid Global API — MCP Server

A remote Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that gives AI agents direct, structured access to U.S. federal contract opportunities sourced from SAM.gov (System for Award Management), the official U.S. government procurement portal.

This server exposes the GovBid Global API data through MCP tools so that any MCP-compatible AI agent (Claude, other LLM agents, etc.) can search, filter, and retrieve federal bid/opportunity data autonomously.

  • MCP Endpoint: https://govbid-mcp-server.gaikotsuimageprocessing.workers.dev/mcp
  • Data source: SAM.gov Opportunities API (U.S. Government, Public Domain)
  • Update frequency: Daily, automated via GitHub Actions
  • License: MIT

What this server does

GovBid Global API MCP Server acts as a bridge between AI agents and live U.S. federal procurement data. Instead of scraping or manually querying SAM.gov, an AI agent can call this server's tools to:

  • Discover the API's metadata and licensing terms
  • Search recent federal contract opportunities by department, date range, and result limit
  • Retrieve a direct link to the official SAM.gov page for a specific opportunity

Available MCP Tools

ToolAuth requiredDescription
get_api_infoNoReturns metadata about the API: name, version, description, license, and the llms.txt URL.
search_opportunitiesYes (api_key)Searches federal contract opportunities. Supports filtering by department, days (lookback window), and limit (result count).
get_opportunity_detailNoReturns the official SAM.gov source URL for a specific opportunity by ID.

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
