About RankCLI

RankCLI is a local MCP server for SEO and AI-search visibility analysis, aimed at site developers and coding agents. It analyzes supplied HTML and related files without sending data to RankCLI servers, and also provides agent skills for audits and CI checks.

Key features

  1. 01SEO and GEO analysis
  2. 02AI crawler access checks
  3. 03Core Web Vitals estimates
  4. 04Structured data validation and generation
  5. 05Security header review
  6. 06Image, link, and mobile checks

Use cases

  1. 01Audit supplied page HTML for SEO issues
  2. 02Check robots.txt access for AI crawlers
  3. 03Validate or create JSON-LD schema
  4. 04Use SEO checks as a CI build gate

MCP support

The MCP server runs inside the MCP host and exposes analysis tools for HTML and related inputs supplied by the host or user. It does not fetch pages itself; the host can provide fetched content.

Configuration

Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.

mcp.json · Universal config
{
"mcpServers": {
"integrallis-rankcli": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"@rankcli/mcp-server"
]
}
}
}
Run commandnpx -y @rankcli/mcp-server

Local servers need a runtime on your machine (e.g. Node.js 18+). Config file locations differ by client; see your client’s docs.

Details

From the project README

@rankcli/mcp-server

Free, local SEO + GEO (AI-search-citation) analysis as an MCP tool. No signup, no API key, nothing sent to RankCLI's servers — it runs entirely inside your MCP host (Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, etc.) against HTML you already have or that your host fetches for you.

Install

Add to Cursor Add to VS Code

Claude Desktop — download the latest .mcpb from Releases and double-click it. No config file, no terminal.

Claude Code — one line, no config file:

claude mcp add rankcli -- npx -y @rankcli/mcp-server

Anything else (Claude Desktop, Codex, Windsurf) — the standard config block:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "rankcli": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@rankcli/mcp-server"]
    }
  }
}

Claude Desktop config path (~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "rankcli": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["@rankcli/mcp-server"]
    }
  }
}

Agent skills and Claude Code plugin

The same checks as skills your coding agent loads on demand. Two skills ship in this repo: seo-audit (run the audit, read the JSON, fix the highest-impact issues in the codebase) and seo-ci-gate (fail the build on SEO regressions in GitHub Actions or any CI).

Any agent (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Copilot, Windsurf and others), via the skills CLI:

npx skills add integrallis/rankcli-mcp-server

Claude Code plugin (the two skills plus the MCP server, one install):

/plugin install rankcli --marketplace integrallis/rankcli-mcp-server

or from a shell: claude plugin marketplace add integrallis/rankcli-mcp-server then claude plugin install rankcli@rankcli. The skills are then /rankcli:seo-audit and /rankcli:seo-ci-gate.

Your MCP host fetches the page and Claude calls these tools directly — nothing round-trips through RankCLI.

This local server works from HTML/robots.txt you or your MCP host supply. For URL-only tools that fetch and crawl for you (seo_audit, seo_geo_check, seo_robots_check, seo_compare), plus the newer Cloudflare AI-crawler-gating compliance check, CI/CD scheduling, and auto-fix PRs, see the hosted endpoint and paid tiers:

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
