About Axis LMS MCP by usefulapi

Axis LMS MCP by usefulapi connects Axis LMS users, courses, learning paths, certifications, and reports to AI clients. It is for teams managing LMS content and learner records, and supports enrollment, user, and user-group changes as well as queries.

Key features

  1. 01Look up users and courses
  2. 02Review learning paths and certifications
  3. 03Retrieve course and user reports
  4. 04Manage course and learning-path enrollment
  5. 05Create users and manage user groups

Use cases

  1. 01Find learners and their course records
  2. 02Check certification and learning-path progress
  3. 03Enroll users in courses or ILT sessions

MCP support

The remote MCP server connects to Axis LMS through OAuth and provides read-only query tools alongside tools that modify data. Initial setup requires an Axis LMS address and REST API key.

Configuration

Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.

Connect

  • Claude (claude.ai, Desktop): open Customize → Connectors, click + Add → Add custom connector, and paste https://axis-lms.usefulapi.io/mcp.
  • Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http axis-lms https://axis-lms.usefulapi.io/mcp, then run /mcp to log in.
  • VS Code: Add to VS Code.
  • Cursor and other clients: add the URL as a remote MCP server:
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "axis-lms": {
      "url": "https://axis-lms.usefulapi.io/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Add only the URL. Do not add an Authorization header or an API key to the client config: the server signs you in with OAuth, and the login page asks for your Axis LMS credentials.

Step-by-step setup, where to find your credentials, and FAQ: https://usefulapi.io/axis-lms/

On first connect you'll enter the web address of your Axis LMS (https) and an Axis REST API key (System > Integrations > Axis REST API > Manage API Keys; the Axis REST API must be enabled for your system). Your credentials are validated, stored per-user, and scoped to you — no keys in config files.

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
