About MapTiler MCP by usefulapi
A hosted MCP server that provides MapTiler Cloud location and coordinate operations to MCP clients. Its tools cover geocoding, elevation, IP geolocation and coordinate transformations.
Key features
- 01Forward and reverse geocoding
- 02Batch geocoding
- 03IP geolocation
- 04Look up elevation at coordinates
- 05Transform coordinates and search CRS
- 06Retrieve GeoJSON dataset features
Use cases
- 01Find coordinates for place names
- 02Identify a place from coordinates
- 03Check elevation or locate an IP address
- 04Convert coordinates between reference systems
MCP support
Exposes MapTiler Cloud geocoding, elevation, IP geolocation, coordinate transformation and dataset feature operations as MCP tools. MCP clients connect to the hosted endpoint and provide a MapTiler API key during sign-in.
Configuration
Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.
https://maptiler.usefulapi.io/mcpclaude mcp add --transport http io-usefulapi-maptiler https://maptiler.usefulapi.io/mcp{"mcpServers":{"io-usefulapi-maptiler":{"type":"http","url":"https://maptiler.usefulapi.io/mcp"}}}Open in Cursor{"servers":{"io-usefulapi-maptiler":{"type":"http","url":"https://maptiler.usefulapi.io/mcp"}}}Open in VS Code{"mcpServers":{"io-usefulapi-maptiler":{"type":"http","url":"https://maptiler.usefulapi.io/mcp"}}}{"mcpServers":{"io-usefulapi-maptiler":{"serverUrl":"https://maptiler.usefulapi.io/mcp"}}}Run commands in a terminal; paste JSON into the client’s MCP config and restart. Servers that need sign-in will prompt on first connect.
Tools
8| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| bbox | string | No | Bounding box "west,south,east,north" to restrict results. |
| limit | integer | No | Max results (1-10). Default 5. |
| query | string | Yes | Place/address/POI to search for (goes in the URL path). |
| types | string | No | Comma-separated place types to include (e.g. address,poi,city). |
| country | string | No | Comma-separated ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country codes to restrict to. |
| language | string | No | Comma-separated ISO 639-1 language codes for results. |

| worldview | enum | No | Disputed-border worldview: default | auto | ch | us.default | auto | ch | us |
| fuzzyMatch | boolean | No | Allow approximate matching of the query terms. |
| autocomplete | boolean | No | Treat the last term as a prefix for as-you-type search. |
| excludeTypes | boolean | No | If true, `types` becomes an exclude list instead. |

Geocode places, look up elevation, and transform coordinates with the MapTiler Cloud API — from Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client. Hosted, no local install — connect with your MapTiler API key.
Live endpoint: https://maptiler.usefulapi.io/mcp · Homepage: https://usefulapi.io/maptiler
Connect
- Claude (claude.ai, Desktop): open Customize → Connectors, click + Add → Add custom connector, and paste
https://maptiler.usefulapi.io/mcp. - Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http maptiler https://maptiler.usefulapi.io/mcp, then run/mcpto log in. - VS Code: Add to VS Code.
- Cursor and other clients: add the URL as a remote MCP server:
{
"mcpServers": {
"maptiler": {
"url": "https://maptiler.usefulapi.io/mcp"
}
}
}
Add only the URL. Do not add an Authorization header or an API key to the client config: the server signs you in with OAuth, and the login page asks for your MapTiler credentials.
Step-by-step setup, where to find your credentials, and FAQ: https://usefulapi.io/maptiler/
On first connect you'll paste your MapTiler API key. It's validated, stored per-user, and scoped to you.
Tools
| Tool | Type | What it does |
|---|---|---|
maptiler_geocode | read | Forward geocode (search place by name) |
maptiler_reverse_geocode | read | Reverse geocode (place at coordinates) |
maptiler_batch_geocode | read | Batch forward geocode |
maptiler_geolocate_ip | read | Geolocate IP address |
maptiler_get_elevation | read | Get elevation at coordinates |
maptiler_transform_coordinates | read | Transform coordinates between CRS |
maptiler_search_coordinate_systems | read | Search coordinate reference systems |
maptiler_get_data_features | read | Get dataset features (GeoJSON) |
maptiler_usage_status | meta | Usage status (free-tier meter) |
maptiler_request_feature | meta | Request a missing feature |
maptiler_upgrade | meta | Upgrade to Pro (unlimited*) |
maptiler_cancel_subscription | meta | Cancel the Pro subscription |
read tools are read-only; write tools mutate data (clients should confirm them); meta tools report usage, manage your subscription or send a feature request.
Pricing
| Plan | Price | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 50 tool calls / month |
| Pro | $9/mo or $90/yr (2 months free) | Unlimited* |
*Pro has a fair use limit of 10,000 tool calls a month on this server. For more, write to [email protected].
Pro covers this server only. Subscribe with maptiler_upgrade (it returns a Stripe Checkout link). Cancel any time with maptiler_cancel_subscription: Pro continues to the end of the paid period, with no refund for the current period, and running maptiler_upgrade before then undoes the cancel. Or write to [email protected].

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
