About Palim

Palim is a hosted memory MCP server for people using AI clients such as Claude, Cursor, and ChatGPT. It stores explicitly saved sessions, decisions, and memories for text search across connected clients.

Key features

  1. 01Save session checkpoints and transcripts
  2. 02Store durable facts and preferences
  3. 03Search saved work across clients
  4. 04Resume the latest handoff
  5. 05OAuth or API key authentication

Use cases

  1. 01Resume a project in a different AI client
  2. 02Retrieve a past decision by text search
  3. 03Save a work checkpoint before ending a session

MCP support

Palim exposes hosted memory tools through an MCP endpoint. MCP clients connect using OAuth or an API key.

Configuration

Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.

Endpointhttps://api.usepalim.com/mcp
Copy install command
Claude CodeTerminal
Cursor.cursor/mcp.json
VS Code.vscode/mcp.json
Claude Desktopclaude_desktop_config.json
Windsurf~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json

Run commands in a terminal; paste JSON into the client’s MCP config and restart. Servers that need sign-in will prompt on first connect.

Palim MCP examples

Copy-paste configs to connect Palim — a hosted MCP memory server — to Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, and other MCP clients.

Palim stores sessions, decisions, and memories you explicitly save, then makes them searchable from every connected AI client.

Not a local SQLite sidecar. Hosted MCP endpoint. Search today: PostgreSQL full-text + text match (not vector/semantic embeddings).

Install in Codex / ChatGPT desktop

This repository provides a custom plugin marketplace containing Palim's memory skill and hosted MCP connection.

In the desktop app, open Settings → Plugins → Add → Add plugin marketplace:

  • Source: joleschmidt/palim-mcp-examples
  • Git ref: main
  • Sparse paths: leave empty; the plugin lives at the repository root.

Open the Plugins Directory, select the Palim marketplace, and install Palim. If the new source does not appear immediately, reopen the directory or restart the desktop app. Connect your Palim account when prompted on first use and confirm that the displayed account is the one you intend to use.

Alternatively, with the Codex CLI:

codex plugin marketplace add joleschmidt/palim-mcp-examples --ref main
codex plugin add palim@palim

Try Palim Help, then ask Palim to save a small checkpoint and retrieve it. This is a custom repository marketplace. A public listing in OpenAI's universal Plugins Directory requires a separate submission and review.

The catalog is .agents/plugins/marketplace.json. The portable plugin package uses root plugin.json, mcp.json, and skills/palim-memory/. The Codex compatibility manifest is .codex-plugin/plugin.json; it uses .codex-mcp.json for the HTTP/OAuth connection.

Install in Claude Code (plugin)

The plugin adds the Palim connector, two skills (/palim:handoff, /palim:status) and three session hooks: it loads your last thread when a session starts, keeps your state current while you work, and saves a checkpoint before Claude Code compacts its context.

claude plugin marketplace add joleschmidt/palim-mcp-examples
claude plugin install palim@palim

Then sign in to the connector: run /mcp, select palim and authenticate. Sign-in uses OAuth, so there is no key to copy.

The hooks run outside the model and need their own credential. Create an API key at api.usepalim.com/setup and enter it when Claude Code asks for the plugin's options, or later under /plugin > Palim > Configure. Claude Code keeps it in secure storage. Without a key the hooks do nothing and the rest of the plugin still works. Run /palim:status to see whether everything is in place.

Requires python3 on your PATH. The hooks exit quietly on any error and never block a session. The plugin's source, and a full account of what it sends, is in joleschmidt/palim-claude-plugin; this repository holds the catalog, .claude-plugin/marketplace.json.

Add to Cursor

Add Palim MCP to Cursor

One-click MCP install (OAuth on first use). Or copy configs/cursor.mcp.json.

Cursor Marketplace plugin

This repository is the public Cursor plugin source:

After marketplace review, install from Customize → Plugins / cursor.com/marketplace. Until then, use the deep link above or cursor.directory/plugins/palim.

Local test:

mkdir -p ~/.cursor/plugins/local
ln -sfn "$(pwd)" ~/.cursor/plugins/local/palim
# then Developer: Reload Window
Intent pages

Claude Code (OAuth)

claude mcp add --transport http palim https://api.usepalim.com/mcp

First use opens OAuth. API key alternative:

claude mcp add --transport http palim https://api.usepalim.com/mcp \
  --header "x-api-key: YOUR_API_KEY"

Also see configs/claude-code.sh.

Cursor (OAuth)

Settings → Tools & MCP → Add server → URL https://api.usepalim.com/mcp, or put this in ~/.cursor/mcp.json / .cursor/mcp.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "palim": {
      "url": "https://api.usepalim.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

File: configs/cursor.mcp.json. Restart Cursor after edits. For API key auth, see configs/cursor.api-key.mcp.json.

Claude Desktop / Claude.ai

Add a custom connector / remote MCP:

  • URL: https://api.usepalim.com/mcp
  • Auth: OAuth (no API key required for that flow)

ChatGPT

  1. Settings → Apps → Advanced → enable Developer Mode
  2. Create app → URL https://api.usepalim.com/mcp → Auth: OAuth
  3. Advanced settings → disable OIDC (otherwise: “Authorization Request Expired” / token exchange failures)
  4. In each chat, mention @Palim — without that, tools are not available

Perplexity

API key from https://api.usepalim.com/setup. Settings → Connectors → Advanced → paste configs/perplexity.mcp.json and replace YOUR_API_KEY.

Smoke test

In any connected client:

Palim Help

You should get the tool overview. Then save a real session and retrieve it from a second client.

What not to claim

  • Semantic / embedding search (not shipped)
  • Automatic sync without an explicit save (except documented extension/hooks)
  • ChatGPT Memory portability

Tools

Palim exposes hosted memory tools over MCP (45+), including:

ToolPurpose
palim_resumeContinue the latest handoff
palim_save_contextLightweight checkpoint (default save)
palim_save_sessionFull transcript save/append
palim_search / palim_search_by_date_rangeFind past work
palim_add_memoryDurable facts/preferences
palim_helpTool overview

Full list: connect and call palim_help, or see https://usepalim.com/en/docs/

Usage

  1. Connect with OAuth or x-api-key
  2. In a new chat, call palim_resume (or ask "Palim Help")
  3. After real work, checkpoint with palim_save_context
  4. Retrieve from another client with palim_search

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
