About Taskwarrior MCP

Taskwarrior MCP connects Claude and other MCP clients to Taskwarrior for structured task management. Requiring a project for reads and writes keeps routine queries scoped, with an explicit option for cross-project access.

Key features

  1. 01Add and organize project tasks
  2. 02List and search tasks by project
  3. 03Modify, complete, or delete tasks
  4. 04Set due dates, tags, and priorities
  5. 05Opt into all-project queries

Use cases

  1. 01Track tasks within a specific project
  2. 02Find tasks by description or filter
  3. 03Update task status or add a note
  4. 04Review overdue or upcoming tasks

MCP support

Wraps the Taskwarrior CLI and exposes task-management tools to MCP clients. Read and write operations require a project unless the all-projects option is explicitly used.

Configuration

Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
