About BrainTube

BrainTube is a searchable repository for saved videos, podcasts, articles, and PDFs, with an MCP server for AI clients. It combines semantic and keyword search with citations, saving, notes, tags, and knowledge-graph traversal.

Key features

  1. 01Search saved material semantically and by keyword
  2. 02Return citations to saved sources
  3. 03Save, annotate, and tag items
  4. 04Traverse related items in a knowledge graph
  5. 05Access profile and recent activity context

Use cases

  1. 01Find sources among saved videos and articles
  2. 02Ground an AI response in saved material
  3. 03Save a useful discovery during a chat
  4. 04Explore connections across saved items

MCP support

The remote MCP server exposes tools for searching and fetching a user’s saved corpus, saving and annotating items, and accessing related context. It uses Streamable HTTP with OAuth 2.0 or an API key.

Configuration

Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.

Cursor.cursor/mcp.json
VS Code.vscode/mcp.json
Claude Desktopclaude_desktop_config.json
Windsurf~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json

Run commands in a terminal; paste JSON into the client’s MCP config and restart. Servers that need sign-in will prompt on first connect.

BrainTube MCP Server

Save once. Query anywhere. BrainTube compiles what you watch, read and listen to — YouTube videos, podcasts, articles, PDFs — into a persistent, searchable knowledge base, and this MCP server lets your AI search it and save to it over one endpoint.

What it does

Your AI can search and cite your own corpus instead of starting every conversation cold:

  • Semantic + keyword search over everything you've saved, with citations back to the source
  • Save from your AI — your AI can save what it finds into BrainTube, add notes and tag items in the same session
  • Knowledge graph & related-item traversal across your corpus
  • Session context — expertise profile, recent activity, and resurfacing tools
  • Per-user isolation — JWT-scoped access; you only ever see your own corpus

Quickstart

  1. Create an account at brain-tube.com and get an API key (or use OAuth from a compatible client).
  2. Add the server to your MCP client:
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "braintube": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.brain-tube.com/mcp",
      "headers": { "X-BrainTube-Token": "bt_..." }
    }
  }
}

Tested with Claude and ChatGPT; any client that speaks MCP streamable HTTP uses the same endpoint. In clients with OAuth support, just add the endpoint URL and sign in when prompted.

Claude Code — one command:

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user braintube https://mcp.brain-tube.com/mcp --header "X-BrainTube-Token: bt_..."

Claude.ai — Customize → Connectors → + Add → Add custom connector, paste the endpoint, sign in. No API key needed.

ChatGPT — Settings → Plugins → Add → Add custom MCP server. Paste https://mcp.brain-tube.com/mcp, choose OAuth, tick the risk box, Create, then Connect and sign in to BrainTube. No API key needed. ChatGPT uses the search and fetch tools and cites each answer back to your saved item.

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
