About LiveVariant

LiveVariant’s MCP server lets users build, inspect, and read adaptive A/B tests from MCP clients. It can use the hosted endpoint or be configured to call a self-hosted deployment.

Key features

  1. 01Build adaptive A/B tests
  2. 02Inspect test configuration
  3. 03Read test results
  4. 04Use the hosted MCP endpoint
  5. 05Configure self-hosted deployments

Use cases

  1. 01Create A/B tests from an MCP client
  2. 02Review existing test settings
  3. 03Read adaptive test results

MCP support

As LiveVariant’s MCP server, it provides Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, and other MCP clients with tools to build, inspect, and read A/B tests. It can use the hosted endpoint or be configured for a self-hosted deployment.

Configuration

Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.

Copy install command
Claude CodeTerminal
Cursor.cursor/mcp.json
VS Code.vscode/mcp.json
Claude Desktopclaude_desktop_config.json
Windsurf~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json

Run commands in a terminal; paste JSON into the client’s MCP config and restart. Servers that need sign-in will prompt on first connect.

Tools

ParameterTypeRequiredDescription
namestringNoA label for your own reference, and the one field worth spending a merge tag on in a recurring ESP template: it is part of the test's identity, so n={{campaign_name}} mints a separate, separately readable test per campaign, and the name is what list_tests searches.
slotsobjectNoMulti-element test: variants per element, keyed by a short name like "hero" or "cta". The test serves and learns combinations.
regionenumNoWhere the test's state lives. A placement hint (wnam, enam, sam, weur, eeur, apac, oc, afr, me) or "eu" for the EU jurisdiction (state guaranteed created and kept inside the EU). Defaults to the creator's own region when the host can tell; without any, state is born wherever the FIRST request comes from, which in email is routinely a mail provider's US datacenter.wnam | enam | sam | weur | eeur | apac | oc | afr | me | eu
contextarrayNoDimensions to learn a separate winner for.
variantsarrayNoSingle-element test: two or more variants. The first is the control.
redirectUrlstringNoWhere clicks land when a variant does not say.
variantParamstringNoStamp the served combination into this parameter on redirect, e.g. "utm_content", so the test shows up in the customer's own analytics.
slotRedirectsobjectNoWhere clicks on ONE element land, when elements point at different pages (a hero leading to the campaign landing page, a CTA below it to pricing). Keyed like `slots`. Falls back to `redirectUrl`; a variant's own redirectUrl still wins over both. Setting any of these means every click link must name its slot, which slotLinks does for you.
publishableKeystringNoRegisters the new test to the organization identified by a publishable key the user provides for an organization they administer. Result access stays tied to this test's stats secret. Only works on account-enabled deployments; elsewhere a warning says so and the test still works.

Details

From the project README

@livevariant/mcp

MCP server for LiveVariant: build, inspect and read adaptive A/B tests from Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot or any MCP client.

npx -y @livevariant/mcp

Set runtime environment variables before starting the MCP server when you point it at a self-hosted deployment:

  • LIVEVARIANT_SERVER_URL: the deployment origin to call.
  • LIVEVARIANT_API_TOKEN: the deployment's LV_API_TOKEN, when /mcp or /api/v1/* is gated.
  • LIVEVARIANT_ASSET_UPLOAD_TOKEN: the deployment's LV_ASSET_UPLOAD_TOKEN, when /assets is gated.

The hosted endpoint at https://livevariant.com/mcp offers the same tools with nothing installed.

Part of livevariant/livevariant; the repository README covers the whole system. AGPL-3.0.

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
