About Lynxprompt Mcp
Lynxprompt Mcp connects LLMs to a LynxPrompt instance to browse, search, and manage AI configuration blueprints and hierarchies. It supports read-only mode and guards updates against overwriting changes made elsewhere.
Key features
- 01Search public blueprint marketplace
- 02List and read blueprints and hierarchies
- 03Create, update, and delete records
- 04Guard updates with content checksums
- 05Enable read-only tool registration
Use cases
- 01Find reusable AI configuration blueprints
- 02Review a repository's blueprint hierarchy
- 03Manage blueprint content through an LLM
- 04Restrict an instance connection to read-only access
MCP support
The MCP server exposes tools and read-only resources for LynxPrompt blueprints, hierarchies, and user information. It connects over stdio or stateless Streamable HTTP.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
npx -y lynxprompt-mcpLYNXPROMPT_TOKENSecretLynxPrompt API token (lp_...), created under Settings > API tokens. Needed for everything except search_blueprints.LYNXPROMPT_URLLynxPrompt instance URL; https:// unless the host is loopback.LYNXPROMPT_READ_ONLYSet to true to register only the read tools (no create, update or delete).Local servers need a runtime on your machine (e.g. Node.js 18+). Config file locations differ by client; see your client’s docs.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
From the project README
lynxprompt-mcp
An MCP server for any LynxPrompt instance. LLMs use it to browse, search and manage AI configuration blueprints.
It works with lynxprompt.com or your own self-hosted LynxPrompt, over HTTP or stdio.
Features
- Tools to search the public marketplace, list and read your own blueprints and hierarchies, and create, update and delete them. Every tool carries a title, read-only/destructive hints and an output schema.
update_blueprinttakes thecontent_checksumfromget_blueprintasexpected_checksum, so it never silently overwrites an edit made elsewhere.LYNXPROMPT_READ_ONLY=trueregisters only the read tools.- Read-only resources too:
lynxprompt://blueprints,lynxprompt://blueprint/{id},lynxprompt://hierarchies,lynxprompt://hierarchy/{id},lynxprompt://user. - Speaks MCP 2026-07-28 and every earlier revision down to 2024-11-05 from the same binary, so current clients (which still use the
initializehandshake) and 2026-07-28 clients both work. - stdio, or stateless Streamable HTTP on
/mcpwith Origin checks, a body limit and bearer auth when exposed. - Ships as an npm package (
npx lynxprompt-mcp), a Docker image and multi-arch Go binaries.
Tools
| Tool | What it does | Changes data |
|---|---|---|
search_blueprints | Search the public marketplace (query, configs/commands, category, tags, sort, page) | no |
list_blueprints | Your blueprints, paged, filter by visibility | no |
get_blueprint | One of your blueprints with content and content_checksum | no |
list_hierarchies | Your hierarchies (monorepo groupings), paged | no |
get_hierarchy | One hierarchy with its blueprints, flat and as a tree | no |
create_blueprint | New blueprint; visibility: PUBLIC publishes it | yes |
update_blueprint | Change fields; pass expected_checksum | yes, overwrites |
delete_blueprint | Permanent delete | yes, destructive |
create_hierarchy | New hierarchy; returns the existing one for the same repository_root | yes |
delete_hierarchy | Delete a hierarchy; its blueprints are kept, unlinked | yes, destructive |
Install
Create an API token on your LynxPrompt instance under Settings, API tokens. For a self-hosted instance also set LYNXPROMPT_URL. Add LYNXPROMPT_READ_ONLY=true to hide the write tools.

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
