About Assistant MCP Server

Assistant MCP Server is an MCP server for development, with a README that describes project setup and a sample tool configuration. It is aimed at developers integrating tools into an MCP server; the available details do not specify a broader feature set.

Key features

  1. 01Configure tools in tools.json
  2. 02Build with yarn
  3. 03Connect as a local MCP server

Use cases

  1. 01Set up a local development MCP server
  2. 02Configure tools for a frontend architecture project

MCP support

Assistant MCP Server is an MCP server that connects locally through an MCP client configuration. Its README includes an example architecture_info tool for frontend application architecture information.

Configuration

Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.

mcp.json · Universal config
{
"mcpServers": {
"assistant": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [

"tsx"
],
"env": {
"TOOLS_PATH": "<TOOLS_PATH>"
}
}
}
}
Run commandnpx -y tsx

Local servers need a runtime on your machine (e.g. Node.js 18+). Config file locations differ by client; see your client’s docs.

No tool list yet

Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.

Development

After cloning the repository, run the command to install the dependencies:

yarn install

You should also add the tools.json file to the root of the project, for example:

{
  "tools": [
    {
      "name": "architecture_info",
      "description": "Obtaining mandatory information about the architecture of frontend application projects",
      "inputSchema": {},
      "plugin": {
        "name": "file",
        "args": {
          "path": "/path/to/folder/public/architecture.md"
        }
      }
    },
    {
      "name": "search_tasks",
      "description": "Before executing this function, you must retrieve the project architecture information from 'architecture_info'. This is mandatory information and you must respect it. After that you need to find the task you are talking about, analyze what needs to be done and implement it in the project according to the architecture and requirements. You don't need to invent anything additional from yourself, just what is required",
      "inputSchema": {},
      "plugin": {
        "name": "file",
        "args": {
          "path": "/path/to/folder/public/tasks.txt"
        }
      }
    },
    {
        "name": "optimize_prompt",
        "description": "Generates a final, structured prompt for the AI model based on the provided context sections and instructions. This tool should be called after all relevant data has been collected. The result is intended to be used as the FINAL prompt for the AI. Clients must use the returned prompt as the input for the AI model.",
        "inputSchema": {
          "type": "object",
          "properties": {
            "sections": {

              "items": {

          "name": "promptOptimizer",
          "args": {}

To build the project, you must execute the command:

yarn build

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
