About Finance MCP Server
Finance MCP Server is a Python example server for learning how to build and run MCP services. Its financial demo exposes tools to map company names to stock symbols and retrieve data from Yahoo Finance.
Key features
- 01Convert company names to stock symbols
- 02Fetch financial data from Yahoo Finance
- 03Build an MCP server with Python
Use cases
- 01Practice building a Python MCP server
- 02Look up a company's stock symbol
- 03Retrieve financial data from Yahoo Finance
MCP support
The server exposes tools for converting company names to stock symbols and fetching Yahoo Finance data to MCP clients, as a development example.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
From the project READMEFinance MCP Server
A minimal MCP server built with Python that exposes two example tools: one to convert a company name into a stock symbol, and another to fetch financial data from Yahoo Finance. The project focuses on learning how to build and run an MCP server—using a simple financial scenario purely as a demo use case.

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
