About MCP Script Runner
MCP Script Runner is an MCP server for running shell scripts from a designated folder as tools. It is intended for users who want to make local scripts callable through MCP, and can be extended by adding scripts and reloading the server.
Key features
- 01Run shell scripts from a designated folder
- 02Expose scripts as MCP tools
- 03Add tools by placing scripts in the folder
Use cases
- 01Make local scripts callable by MCP clients
- 02Wrap recurring shell operations as tools
- 03Add custom automation scripts to the commands folder
MCP support
The MCP server exposes scripts in a designated folder as tools for MCP clients.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.

Precautions
- Since files are executed directly, do not forget to include the shebang in each file.
- Execution permission is required for the files (although there is a process to adjust permissions included).
- This is intended for local use only, and only scripts that you understand should be placed here.

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
