About mcp-server-demo
A TypeScript and Node.js demo for developers learning to build a simple MCP server. It illustrates custom tools, dynamic resources, and mapping natural-language prompts to tools.
Key features
- 01Build a server with TypeScript
- 02Create custom tools
- 03Serve dynamic resources
- 04Map natural-language prompts to tools
Use cases
- 01Learn the basics of building MCP servers
- 02Experiment with tools and dynamic resources
MCP support
Demonstrates building an MCP server with modelcontextprotocol/typescript-sdk and integrating it with Claude Desktop, including examples of tools, resources, and prompt mapping.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.

Create a Simple MCP Server with Typescript and Integrate with Claude Desktop
We are using Node.js and modelcontextprotocol/typescript-sdk Libary to achieve this.
Nothing complex, just a 15-minute fun project. It demonstrates how to:
- Create custom tools (functions the LLM can call),
- Serve dynamic resources (like URLs with live responses),
- Map natural language prompts to your tools.
- MCP Library Used : modelcontextprotocol/typescript-sdk
- Existing Open Public Servers
QA
- What is MCP?
MCP is an open protocol that standardizes how applications provide context to LLMs. MCP provides a standardized way to connect AI models to different data sources and tools.
- Why MCP?
MCP helps you build agents and complex workflows on top of LLMs. LLMs frequently need to integrate with data and tools, and MCP provides:
A growing list of pre-built integrations that your LLM can directly plug into The flexibility to switch between LLM providers and vendors Best practices for securing your data within your infrastructure

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
