About Simple MCP Server Example
A basic MCP server example built with FastAPI that demonstrates a context service. It is suited to developers exploring health checks and parameterized prompt templates.
Key features
- 01Health check endpoint
- 02Context endpoint for prompt templates
- 03Parameterized prompts
Use cases
- 01Check whether a sample server is running
- 02Request context using a prompt ID and parameters
MCP support
The server demonstrates an MCP context service with an endpoint that processes prompt templates and parameters.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
From the project READMESimple MCP Server Example
This is a basic implementation of a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server using FastAPI. The server demonstrates the core concepts of MCP by providing a simple context service.
Features
- Basic health check endpoint
- Context endpoint that processes prompt templates
- Support for parameterized prompts
Setup
-
Install dependencies:
pip install -r requirements.txt -
Run the server:
uvicorn src.main:app --reload
Usage
The server provides two endpoints:
- GET / - Health check
- POST /context - Get context for a prompt
Example request:
curl -X POST http://localhost:8000/context \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"prompt_id": "greeting", "parameters": {"time": "12:00 PM"}}'

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
