About mcp-server-starter-kit
mcp-server-starter-kit is a TypeScript SDK for implementing the MCP specification. It supports building clients and servers, exposing resources, prompts, and tools, and using stdio or SSE transports.
Key features
- 01Build MCP clients and servers
- 02Expose resources, prompts, and tools
- 03Use stdio and SSE transports
- 04Handle protocol messages and lifecycle events
Use cases
- 01Create an MCP server in TypeScript
- 02Build a client that connects to MCP servers
MCP support
The project implements the MCP specification in a TypeScript SDK for creating clients and servers, with support for standard transports.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
From the project READMEOverview
The Model Context Protocol allows applications to provide context for LLMs in a standardized way, separating the concerns of providing context from the actual LLM interaction. This TypeScript SDK implements the full MCP specification, making it easy to:
- Build MCP clients that can connect to any MCP server
- Create MCP servers that expose resources, prompts and tools
- Use standard transports like stdio and SSE
- Handle all MCP protocol messages and lifecycle events
Installation
npm install @modelcontextprotocol/sdk
create mcp server in cursor AI

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
