About MCP SERVERS EXPRESS
MCP SERVERS EXPRESS is a template for hosting multiple MCP endpoints with an Express.js backend. It demonstrates separate greeting and current-time tools over Server-Sent Events.
Key features
- 01Express.js backend for MCP endpoints
- 02Greeting tool endpoint
- 03Current-time tool endpoint
- 04Server-Sent Events communication
Use cases
- 01Creating an Express.js MCP server
- 02Exposing greeting and time tools
- 03Testing multiple MCP endpoints over SSE
MCP support
It exposes two MCP servers through SSE endpoints: `greet`, which returns a greeting, and `time`, which returns the current time.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.

This template project demonstrates how to host multiple Model Context Protocol (MCP) endpoints using an Express.js backend.
Installation
Install dependencies using pnpm:
pnpm install
To run the server in development mode with hot-reloading:
pnpm run dev
Production
First, build the TypeScript code:
Then, start the server:
The server will be running on http://127.0.0.1:3000.
The following MCP servers are available:
- greet: Provides a greet tool that takes a name and returns a greeting.
- Endpoint: http://127.0.0.1:3000/greet/sse
- time: Provides a get-time tool that returns the current time.
- Endpoint: http://127.0.0.1:3000/time/sse These endpoints use Server-Sent Events (SSE) for communication.

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
