About mcp-servers

A personal collection and setup workflow for MCP servers, intended for use with Claude Desktop. It documents installing and inspecting individual servers with `uv` and the MCP Inspector.

Key features

  1. 01Install servers with `mcp install`
  2. 02Prepare environments with `uv`
  3. 03Inspect servers with MCP Inspector
  4. 04Use server tools and prompts in Claude Desktop

Use cases

  1. 01Set up a local MCP server for Claude Desktop
  2. 02Debug a server when Claude Desktop reports errors

MCP support

The project contains MCP servers and describes installing them for Claude Desktop. Its example shows a weather server, but the README does not specify the complete set of exposed capabilities.

Configuration

Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.

No install method listed yet

We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.

uv venv
uv sync

If Claude Desktop reports errors about MCP servers, you can debug with the MCP Inspector by running:

mcp dev weather.py

Usage

  • Select tools from "Available MCP Tools" tools

  • Select prompts by "Attach from MCP" prompts

Nix user

If uv is installed using Nix, you'll make changes in ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "weather": {
-     "command": "uv",
+     "command": "/etc/profiles/per-user/james/bin/uv",
      "args": [
+       "--directory",
+       "/Users/james/src/mcp-servers",
        "run",
        "--with",
        "mcp",
        "mcp",
        "run",
        "/Users/james/src/mcp-servers/weather.py"
      ]
    }
  }
}

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
