About mcp-tts-server
mcp-tts-server is an MCP server for generating speech from text through the Groq API. It provides a speech-generation tool with several audio formats and optional playback on the server machine.
Key features
- 01Text-to-speech generation through Groq
- 02MCP generate_speech tool
- 03WAV, MP3, AAC, Opus, and FLAC output
- 04Optional playback on the server machine
Use cases
- 01Generate audio from text in an MCP client
- 02Play generated speech on the server machine
MCP support
Exposes a `generate_speech` tool to MCP clients for speech generation. It uses the Groq API and supports stdio transport.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
From the project READMEmcp-tts-server
This project provides a Text-to-Speech (TTS) server based on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), utilizing the Groq API for speech generation.
Features
- Implements an MCP server for TTS functionality.
- Connects to the Groq API (
https://api.groq.com/openai/v1/audio/speech) for generating lifelike audio from text. - Provides a
generate_speechtool accessible via the MCP protocol. - Supports multiple audio output formats (wav, mp3, aac, opus, flac).
- Uses
@tropicbliss/symphoniato play the generated audio directly on the server machine (optional). - Requires a Groq API key set as an environment variable (
GROQ_API_KEY).
Installation
To install dependencies:
bun install
Running the Server on MCP Client
To run the server using the stdio transport:
{
"mcpServers": {
"mcp-tts-server": {
"command": "bunx",
"args": [
"--bun",
"mcp-tts-server",
],
"env": {
"GROQ_API_KEY": "gsk_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
}
}
}
}
Project Structure
src/server.ts: Defines the core MCP server logic, including thegenerate_speechtool and interaction with the Groq API.src/cli.ts: Provides a command-line interface to run the MCP server over stdio.
This project was created using bun init in bun v1.2.7. Bun is a fast all-in-one JavaScript runtime.

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
