About my-server MCP Server
my-server MCP Server is a TypeScript example server implementing a simple notes system. It is aimed at developers exploring MCP resources, tools, and prompts through note creation and summarization.
Key features
- 01Expose notes as URI-addressed resources
- 02Store note titles, content, and metadata
- 03Create notes with a tool
- 04Provide a note-summarization prompt
Use cases
- 01Explore MCP resource access patterns
- 02Create and store text notes
- 03Pass stored notes for LLM summarization
MCP support
Demonstrates MCP by exposing notes as resources, a note-creation tool, and a prompt that embeds stored notes for summarization.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.

A Model Context Protocol server
This is a TypeScript-based MCP server that implements a simple notes system. It demonstrates core MCP concepts by providing:
- Resources representing text notes with URIs and metadata
- Tools for creating new notes
- Prompts for generating summaries of notes
Features
Resources
- List and access notes via
note://URIs - Each note has a title, content and metadata
- Plain text mime type for simple content access
Tools
create_note- Create new text notes- Takes title and content as required parameters
- Stores note in server state
Prompts
summarize_notes- Generate a summary of all stored notes- Includes all note contents as embedded resources
- Returns structured prompt for LLM summarization
Development
Install dependencies:
npm install
Build the server:
npm run build
For development with auto-rebuild:
npm run watch
Installation
To use with Claude Desktop, add the server config:
On MacOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
On Windows: %APPDATA%/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
{
"mcpServers": {
"my-server": {
"command": "/path/to/my-server/build/index.js"
}
}
}
Debugging
Since MCP servers communicate over stdio, debugging can be challenging. We recommend using the MCP Inspector, which is available as a package script:
npm run inspector
The Inspector will provide a URL to access debugging tools in your browser.

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
