About Mcpserver
Mcpserver is a Java demo MCP server that exposes a list of color names and hex values. It supports listing entries, retrieving one color, and adding an entry.
Key features
- 01List color and hex-value pairs
- 02Retrieve a single color
- 03Add a color entry
- 04SSE endpoint
Use cases
- 01Browse the available color list
- 02Look up a color’s hex value
- 03Add a color to the demo list
MCP support
Exposes color-list operations to MCP clients over an SSE endpoint, including listing, retrieving, and adding entries.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
From the project READMEmy own mcp server - a simple list of colors and hex values
This simple demo is based on the youtoube tutorial from dan vega.
prerequisite
To demo the running MCP server I used Claude Desktop with Developer Mode enabled.
Example Claude Desktop config for SSE transport:
{
"mcpServers": {
"localmcp": {
"type": "sse",
"url": "http://localhost:8080/sse"
}
}
}
Replace the URL/port if you change the server.port.
Build and run:
- mvn clean package
- java -jar target/mymcp-0.1.0-SNAPSHOT.jar
Verify the SSE endpoint is registered:
- Start the app
- Open http://localhost:8080/actuator/mappings
- Search for an entry with path "/sse". If you changed the port, adjust the URL accordingly.
what the mcp exposes
The server exposes a list of color name, hex value pairs. With this list you can interact: list all, get one, add one color entry.

inspection of the mcp endpoint
npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector
This will start the inspector, open the browser where you can connect to the mcp endpoint.

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
