About Surface
Surface is a URL preflight MCP server for agents and applications that need to assess short or unfamiliar links before fetching them. It unwraps links and returns a fetch-or-skip decision, not page content.
Key features
- 01Unwraps shortened links
- 02Fetch-or-skip decision
- 03URL verdict and host details
- 04Remote MCP and REST API
- 05Local stdio bridge and CLI
Use cases
- 01Check a shortened link before fetching
- 02Screen unfamiliar URLs in an agent workflow
- 03Use URL preflight from a CLI
- 04Call preflight through REST or MCP
MCP support
Surface exposes the `preflight_url` tool over remote Streamable HTTP MCP. A local stdio server is also available and forwards requests to the remote endpoint.
Configuration
Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.
