About mymcp

mymcp is a learning project about MCP servers. Its README describes configuring index.js in Cursor so the server can answer questions, and notes the distinction between local stdio and SSE transport for externally hosted servers.

Key features

  1. 01MCP server learning example
  2. 02Configure index.js in Cursor
  3. 03Answer questions through the server
  4. 04Introduces stdio and SSE transports

Use cases

  1. 01Try an MCP server in Cursor
  2. 02Learn local stdio configuration
  3. 03Explore SSE for externally hosted servers

MCP support

The project is an MCP server learning example. It explains adding the server to Cursor and mentions SSE as an alternative to stdio for external hosting.

Configuration

Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.

No install method listed yet

Learning about MCP server

Substack Post Link: https://booleanbit1.substack.com/p/mcp

In cursor settings you can add this MCP server by giving the path of the index.js file, and then claude will be able to run this server to get answers of the questions like "How is the weather of Bellevue?" etc.

STDIO will not work if the MCP server is hosted externally and not in your own machine, we can use SSE Transport instead of STDIO Transport at that time.

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
