About Neo4j MCP Server
Neo4j MCP Server is an MCP-based service for performing basic operations on Neo4j databases. It is intended for MCP clients that need database access, with asynchronous operations, proxy configuration, and logging.
Key features
- 01Basic Neo4j database operations
- 02Asynchronous operations
- 03Proxy server configuration
- 04Logging
Use cases
- 01Run Cypher queries through an MCP client
- 02Create nodes in a Neo4j database
MCP support
It exposes basic Neo4j database operations to MCP clients, including query execution and node creation.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
We haven’t collected a package or remote endpoint for this server. Follow the instructions in the project README.
Tools
Local servers expose tools only once running on your machine, and the maintainer has not provided a tool list.
Details
From the project READMENeo4j MCP Server
pip install -e .
NEO4J_URI=http://your-neo4j-server:7474
NEO4J_USERNAME=neo4j
NEO4J_PASSWORD=your-password
HTTP_PROXY=http://your-proxy:port # 可选
HTTPS_PROXY=http://your-proxy:port # 可选
python src/server.py
from mcp.client import Client
async with Client() as client:
# 执行Cypher查询
result = await client.execute_query("MATCH (n) RETURN n LIMIT 5")
# 创建节点
node = await client.create_node("Person", {"name": "张三", "age": 30})
# 创建关系
rel = await client.create_relationship(1, 2, "KNOWS", {"since": "2024"})
python -m venv .venv
source .venv/bin/activate # Linux/Mac
.venv\Scripts\activate # Windows
pip install -e ".[dev]"
python -m pytest

New to MCP?
From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
