LocalAbout fileshareforagents
fileshareforagents is an MCP server for storing and sharing files for AI agents. It supports free public items and private storage paid with credits or USDC via x402.
Key features
- 01Store public items for up to seven days
- 02Store private items for up to 365 days
- 03Retrieve and inspect stored content
- 04Share with signed links or passwords
- 05Pay with credits or USDC via x402
Use cases
- 01Share an agent-generated file with a person
- 02Keep private agent data for later retrieval
- 03Distribute files through expiring links
- 04Extend retention or add read capacity
MCP support
It runs locally over stdio and exposes storage, retrieval, sharing, account, and payment tools to MCP clients.
Configuration
Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.
npx -y fileshareforagents-mcpFILESHARE_API_KEYSecretAccount key (fsa_...) from https://fileshareforagents.online/dashboard. Each paid call spends one prepaid credit; no wallet needed. Optional.WALLET_KEYSecretPrivate key (0x + 64 hex) of a wallet holding USDC on the chosen network. Optional: without it the free tools work and paid tools explain what to set.FILESHARE_NETWORKtestnet (default, Base Sepolia with free test USDC) or mainnet (Base, real USDC).Local servers need a runtime on your machine (e.g. Node.js 18+). Config file locations differ by client; see your client’s docs.

Details
From the project READMEfileshareforagents-mcp
MCP server for fileshareforagents.online: storage and file sharing for AI agents. Public items (up to 7 days) are free. Private items, longer retention, extensions and read packs are paid calls, one cent each, and there are two ways to pay:
- Prepaid credits, no wallet. Sign in at https://fileshareforagents.online/login, buy
credits (10 are included on signup), create an API key in the dashboard and set it as
FILESHARE_API_KEY. Each paid call spends one credit. - USDC over x402. Set
WALLET_KEYto a wallet holding USDC on Base; the server signs a $0.01 payment per call. The key never leaves the process and is never sent to the service. With both configured, credits are used first and the wallet steps in when they run out.
The server runs locally next to your agent (stdio).
Install
Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf and most MCP clients take a config like this:
{
"mcpServers": {
"fileshare": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "fileshareforagents-mcp"],
"env": {
"FILESHARE_API_KEY": "fsa_<key from the dashboard>",
"FILESHARE_NETWORK": "mainnet"
}
}
}
}
Claude Code, one line:
claude mcp add fileshare -e FILESHARE_API_KEY=fsa_... -e FILESHARE_NETWORK=mainnet -- npx -y fileshareforagents-mcp
Paying with a wallet instead: replace FILESHARE_API_KEY with WALLET_KEY=0x... (a private
key of a wallet holding USDC on the chosen network).
Start on testnet (the default): free test USDC on Base Sepolia from
faucet.circle.com, nothing real at stake. Switch to real money
with FILESHARE_NETWORK=mainnet and a wallet holding USDC on Base. The wallet needs no ETH;
the payment facilitator pays gas.
Without WALLET_KEY the free tools work and the paid ones explain what to set.
Tools
| Tool | Cost | What it does |
|---|---|---|
store_public | free | Public item for up to 7 days: text, JSON, base64 bytes or a local file. Anyone with links.public can open it. |
store | 1¢ | Private item for 1 to 365 days: text, JSON, base64 bytes or a local file (file_path). Includes 100 reads. Returns id and a one-time secret. |
retrieve | free (1 read) | Get the content back. Text and JSON inline, binary as base64 or saved to save_to. |
status | free | Expiry, reads left, size, type, password flag. |
extend | 1¢ | New expiry, up to 365 days from now. |
buy_reads | 1¢ | Add 1000 reads. No secret needed, so anyone can top up an item they were given. |
share_link | free | Signed, time-limited URL anyone can open, no password asked. The URL is the credential. |
revoke_links | free | Invalidate every share link issued so far. |
set_password | free | Protect the item's public address with a password (12 to 128 chars). Browsers get a form, agents send x-password. |
remove_password | free | Public address stops serving; signed links still work. |
delete | free | Permanent, no refund. |
pricing | free | Prices, limits, allowed content types, network. |
wallet_status | free | Address and USDC balance of the paying wallet, and how to fund it. |
account | free | Credits, files and storage of the account behind FILESHARE_API_KEY. |
buy_credits | N¢ | Buy N credits for that account with one USDC payment (needs both the key and a wallet). |
feedback | free | Missing feature, bug, or abuse report, straight to the operator. |
Allowed content: JSON, text, Markdown, CSV, HTML, SVG, PDF, PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, up to 25 MB.
Two ways to hand content to a human
share_linkwithexpires_inseconds. Send the URL. Nothing else needed, but anyone holding the URL can read until it expires.set_password, then send the returnedpublic_urland the password over different channels. The address asks for the password on every open.
Each open counts one read; buy_reads first if many people will open it.
Environment
| Variable | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
FILESHARE_API_KEY | unset | fsa_… account key from the dashboard. Paid tools spend one credit per call; no wallet needed. |
WALLET_KEY | unset | 0x + 64 hex chars. Paid tools pay $0.01 USDC per call over x402. |
FILESHARE_NETWORK | testnet | testnet (Base Sepolia) or mainnet (Base). |
FILESHARE_API | per network | Override the API origin. |
FILESHARE_SHARE | per network | Override the share-domain origin. |
Notes
- Content is deleted at expiry and cannot be recovered. This is a drop box, not a vault.
- Keep the
secretfromstore; it is shown once. Whoever has it controls the item. - Terms of service: https://fileshareforagents.online/terms. Machine-readable docs: https://fileshareforagents.online/llms.txt.
- Failed settlements are never charged; the server retries once and otherwise returns the
service's error with a
request_idyou can quote infeedback.

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.
An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
