About chartlink

chartlink-mcp is a bridge for clients that only launch local stdio servers, providing charts, maps, and tables with live-updating embed links. Its template workflow supports creating and publishing visualizations, with an optional full-engine tool set.

Key features

  1. 01Find and read visualization templates
  2. 02Dry-run data
  3. 03Create charts from templates
  4. 04Publish and return embed links
  5. 05Optional full-engine tool set

Use cases

  1. 01Turn data into charts or maps
  2. 02Preview how data fits a template
  3. 03Publish live-updating embedded visualizations

MCP support

The package bridges over stdio to the chartlink MCP server; clients that support HTTP MCP can connect directly to the remote endpoint. An API key is required for tool calls.

Configuration

Remote servers need no local install. Pick your client, then copy the config or install in one click.

Cursor.cursor/mcp.json
VS Code.vscode/mcp.json

Windsurf~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json

Run commands in a terminal; paste JSON into the client’s MCP config and restart. Servers that need sign-in will prompt on first connect.

chartlink-mcp

A stdio bridge to the chartlink MCP server, for clients that only launch local stdio servers. Charts, maps and tables with live-updating embed links: https://chartlink.app

    "chartlink": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "chartlink-mcp"],
      "env": { "CHARTLINK_API_KEY": "viz_..." }
    }
  }
}

No key yet? curl -X POST https://chartlink.app/api/signup returns a workspace and its key — no account. The key is shown once.

Without a key the bridge still starts and lists every tool, so you can look before you sign up; each tool call then answers with the signup step instead of running.

If your client speaks HTTP MCP, skip this package and connect directly: https://chartlink.app/mcp with Authorization: Bearer viz_....

By default the server exposes the template path — nine tools: find a template by need, read its contract, dry-run your data, create from it with your data and a few knobs, publish, hand back the links. The whole engine (every chart type, the full settings schema, brands, data sources) is behind CHARTLINK_MCP_URL=https://chartlink.app/mcp?full=1.

The manual your agent should read first: https://chartlink.app/llms.txt (the templates and the four-step loop); the full engine manual is https://chartlink.app/llms-full.txt.

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
