About Webscope

Webscope is a Python MCP server that gives coding agents bounded project search, symbol-level reads, and output from configured scripts. Its manifest-based controls restrict file access and script execution, while keeping responses short.

Key features

  1. 01Group case-insensitive search hits by file
  2. 02Read one symbol or Markdown section
  3. 03Run configured scripts with trimmed output
  4. 04Restrict project paths and hide secret files
  5. 05Gate declared write operations

Use cases

  1. 01Find relevant code without reading whole files
  2. 02Inspect a function or section in a large project
  3. 03Run approved project reports with bounded output

MCP support

Webscope communicates over MCP using stdio and JSON-RPC 2.0. It exposes search, read, and script-running tools, plus a gated write tool when configured.

Configuration

Local server config is the same for every client. Copy it into your client’s MCP config file.

mcp.json · Universal config
{
"mcpServers": {
"partprogramming09-webscope": {
"command": "uvx",
"args": [
"webscope-mcp"
]
}
}
}
Run commanduvx webscope-mcp

Local servers need a runtime on your machine (e.g. Node.js 18+). Config file locations differ by client; see your client’s docs.

New to MCP?

From what the protocol is to installing your first server, these answers cover most first questions.

An open protocol that defines how AI applications connect to external tools and data in a uniform way. Clients talk to the model; MCP servers provide tools, resources and prompt templates. They exchange standard messages, so one server can be reused by many clients.
